Title: GA-880GA-UD3H
Post by: bigdaveberg on July 14, 2010, 06:56:00 am
Hey guys as the topic title says i own that board and was wondering, i want to upgrade to graphics card. But i am stuck between a rock and hard place...I know the board is amd/ati chipset, so will an ati card give best preformance with this board? I currently have my old bfg 9600gt oc, that has a bad svideo port that is why i want to replace it. But anyways should i go with an ati card like a 4850, 5770,5750? looking at spending about 150ish, i have bills this month... ::) so any ideas guys and gals?  ;D ;)
Please vote in my poll....if i figure out how to make one

For your budget and motherboard I would definitley recommend an ATI card. You can probably pick up a 4870x2 for that price but if If you can get a 5770 or similar then that's even better. Shame you won't have enough for the 5850.

The 5850 is a great card bang for buck wise especially if you are looking to play the latest games.

I see those cards are for 304~. That may be pushing it a little bit lol. I play games but i do not know about that, maybe just maybe. I may wait a week or two longer and then order, maybe the price will go down just a tad

Have you checked out Ebuyer. I am sure they had them for less than that. No my bad, I just checked and they are over your budget.(£262 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/205834) :'(  So it looks like the 5770 then.

Hey no biggy. I need preformance, and i am sure that the 5770 will do let me check passmark charts, or is there a better video card bench mark list?
Hey i will do that with the threads. going to delete the second thread.

I notice that the graphics card recommended there uses a Bus Standard of  PCI Express 2.1.

Although, the PCI Express slots on the GA-880GA-UD3H only conform to the PCI Express 2.0 standard.

The graphics card may work with your motherboard, but you may not get the full potential.

Well i just emailed tech support to ask them that question.
Do they make the 5770 with a 256bit bus or not? I would preffer the double rate over the 128bit...but that i would think mean 300 bones....SO MANY HARD CHOICES!!

To go up to the 256bit you have to move up to the 5850. The 5770 is only 128bit. The only other option is to go for the 4890 which is 256bit with 2Gb DDR5.

And i take it the 4970 is about the same as th 5770 but from i read is it is a heat freak and power hungry. Anyways i believe after much consideration......the 5850 it is!!!! I will have to pay my insurance next check and my is not expensive lol. Damn that is the most expensive product i will have bought. Do you think it will be good for a couple years?

Edit: i meant the 5850. sorry about the typo, this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150494 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150494) or this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150477 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150477)

Did you mean the 5870 not 5850? That's one great card. It should last you for a couple of years no problem. Eyefinity and DX11 all good gear. Actually I have the 4890 2Gb and it is a brilliant card but not in the same league as the 5870. One day I will upgrade :'(

Oh I thought for a moment that youi had won the lottery or something :o Understood. The 5850 is still one really good card especially for playing games. I am sure that you will be more than happy with it. In the future you could always add another one a crossfire them to get extraodinary results (and even more monitors) 8)
