Title: GTS 250 with my motherboard
Post by: ryanmartin1993 on July 16, 2010, 10:15:50 pm
Okay Im going to explain this as simply as possible
I purchased a gainward GTS 250 512MB graphics card today.
I tried it on this motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA78LM-S2H and it does not work, can anyone advise me on why it doesnt?
I know the mobo is PCI-E 2.0 and DX10 compatible which is what the GPU is.
Help me please!

Right go for the obvious first. Have you made sure the card is seated properly and the extra power connectors are installed?

okay im not a noob when it comes to building PCs i have built over 4 no issues ever before, the GPU is installed to the letter as it should be but my monitot gets no response from the GPU unit and my screen remains blank. I booted with onboard graphics and the card installed, logged on checked the hardware area the device was listed as unknown device, potentially it is faulty? (btw i use xp)

I wasn't suggesting that you were a "noob" although I don't think tha having built a grand total of 4 PCs makes you an expert either ;) It is often easier to amke no assumtions and start from basics. We can all make the odd stupid mistake.
Please post your entire hardware list and say what is new and what is not.
Are you using the latest BIOS update?

AMD Athlon II 435 X3
Gigabyte GA-MA78LM-S2H (mATX)
2 X1GB DDR2 800MHZ RAM
250GB HDD SATA Wester Digital
8500GT Inno3D (why i want to upgrade to GTS 250)

my BIOS was last updated August 2009, the GTS 250 came out MArch2009 i think so it shld be up to date

ps can i contact you any other way, xfire, steam, email? forums is kind of long and takes ages to get to the point

Thanks for the response and I understand your impatience but we prefer to converse on the forum because it also gives other people who might have a similar problem the chance t find a solution too. I will be here most of the time though so there's really no need to wait.

Right at least we have a bit more info to go on now.

What revision is your motherboard?
What BIOS version is yours?
Have you cleared your CMOS and then loaded the BIOS optimised defaults?

So still no display. Try installing your old card again until we can update the BIOS.

to bed lol, okay i solved the problem, basically i had a cheap PSU which using only one 6pin powersupply cable didnt give the GTS250 enough power so the display adapters didnt work, buying another 6pin adapter i managed to make it work so it was simply a power issue. Darkmantis thank you very much for your advice you have been very helpful good luck in whatever you do in the future and thanks again

You're very welcome Ryan and now maybe you will understand what I said at the begining. Not a case of being a noob or expert just finding the stupid error. ;)
