Hi
I'm hoping someone can help me..
I have the GA-MA785GMT-UD2H installed and working well under Windows 7 Home Edition, well so I thought..
I'm trying to output the video & audio over HDMI to my Plasma TV, and while I can see the Video on the screen (and the model of the TV listed in the PC's dispaly properties window).. When I try and look to the Sound properties; of the 3 devices listed there the Realtek as default, but the HDMI option is greyed out and has Not Connected listed under it (so I cannot set it as the default sound option) ?
If it is outputing video, why is it saying for the sound that HDMI is not connected..
Many thanks for any assistance this forum can give me..

Hi,
have you checked your settings in BIOS?
Not sure of the BIOS options with your motherboard but check this thread: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2291.0.html where a similar problem occurred.

Not sure if it applies but according to the specs you cant use HDMI and DVI outputs at the same time.

Hi,
Thanks for your comment Dark Mantis.
Just to confirm - I'm using the HDMI to the Plasma TV and 15pin VGA to an old monitor
(The DVI connection is not used).
The Plasma model is register in the display setting, so I know it is seeing the screen OK..
Could there be a handhake or something needed for the Audio to flow over HDMI ?
Cheers

Have you got the HD drivers installed? and got the audio set to digital output?
-
From memory
All the required software/drivers were installed from the Giga-byte CD that came with the m/board..
And if I look under the Realtek HD manager, the digital audio icons are highlighted (and the analog are greyed out)
(I can also see the optical light SP/DIF is on) - I've not built a PC for years - so I may have missed something.
Is there something specific I should check/do - an idiots guide would be appreciated..

TYo be honest with you this is not really my field either , just general knowledge. Hopefully absic will pick up the thread and I am sure he will know the answer. He is the main man here for anything sound related. ;)

Having just looked at your manual you might find some usefull iunfo on page 20 here: http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-ma785g(p)mt-ud(s)2h_e.pdf

I have just had a message from absic and he's busy right now but he suggested checking out the ATI Catalyst Control as there is often a setting there that needs to be applied.
If you are still having trouble he will look in later.

Hi - thanks again for your comments absic115 -
Refreshing my memory on the manual (p20).. "After installing the HDMI device, make sure the default device for sound playback is the HDMI device. (The item name may differ by operating system. The following screen is from Windows Vista.)"
The problem I have is the HDMI device icon (for Sound) is stating that it's "Not plugged in" and greyed out - yet it is as, I'm using it to get a picture on the TV ???
As it is grey, I can't set it as default, or configure it.. (both options are greyed out even when selected)

The only thing I can think of to suggest is to uninstall and then re-install and see if it picks up the right settings then.

After a lot of playing around tonight, and to be honest - i'm not exactly sure what I did, but I think it is fixed..
(i now have sound over HDMI !!! )
I looked at upgrading the ATI and Realtek drivers etc. but in the end , it looks like the remove (uninstall) of the original Realtek HD Audio Drivers and then the subsequent reboot, where Windows pops ups and says it's installed "Realtek HD Audio"- I then checked the Sound Properties box and this time HDMI Audio was not greyed out - it was in glorious colour - and I could set it as the default audio device..
WHat a relief - a big thank you to all who assisted..

I always hate it when things suddenly start working properly but you don't really know why. I think your assessment of the situation is probably correct though. Anyway main thing is it ok now ;)
