Title: P55A-UD3 -- i5-750 continuous short beeps
Post by: smoorman on July 23, 2010, 01:41:45 pm
It's giving me continuous short beeps. The screen is blank. All dark. Brand new mobo chip and mem, just assembled. Power supply is 550 fatality. It has the 8 pin connector.  video card is GTS250. When power supply and video card are put back into old system they work fine. The phase indicators on mobe are all lit. (2 green 2 red).
Old mobo is a Gigabyte p965 with core2 6600 or so. Can't remember. Anyone ran into this before?

Try clearing the CMOS.

Continuous short beeps indicate a power error. Have you connected all of the power connectors to the motherboard & graphics card properly?

Have a close look at the motherboard connector from the PSU and the 8 pin EATX 12v connectors and make sure that none of the pins are loose/misplaced.

Power supply is 550 fatality

Although this is big enough to power your other system not sure if it has enough grunt for your new one. What do you think DM?

Well absic I must admit I was beginning to wonder. I would have thought that it should be enough but with tolerances and capacitor droop etc maybe it is just not quite enough.

Having checked the specs for your motherboard, GPU and PSU my advice would be to try a different power supply.

Besides Peteruk, did anyone suspect ram in the wrong slots? That was it. Gigabyte tech support had it in 4 steps. Thanks Peteruk and as soon as I get this thing OC'd I'll report back. Thanks again all.

No to be honest It didn't cross my mind that it was a wrongly installed memory problem. All the indications were of a power problem. This is where it is much harder to faultfind when you don't have the components in front of you.  Anyway glad yopu got it sorted.
