What is the ICH SATA Control Mode? Why do I get the BSOD on Windows 7 when I switch that feature from IDE to AHCI on my X58A-UD7 Rev. 1(with F6 BIOS)?
Thanks

Because if you have set up your drive with IDE and then change it to AHCI the two are not compatible. You would have to do some registry hacking to get it to boot. Besides there is no real performance enhancement in running AHCI only the fact that it enables drives to be hot swappable. The ICH is part of the southbridge and stands for I/O Controller Hub.
