Title: 3 GB DDR3, tripple channel
Post by: white_dove on August 17, 2010, 11:11:47 am
Hello guys.
I wanna change from x86 to x64 Windows 7,but i need your advice.
Now i have 3 GB DDR3,in tripple channel. You think its ok if i get 1 more GB DDR3?
Should i go for 3 mor GB DDR3 ??
If i get only 1 GB RAM DDR3, its going to 'affect' the performance of tripple channel ?
My motherboard is Gigabyte GA EX58 UD5.
I have now 3 x 1 GB
They are in DDR3_1 / DDR3_3 and DDR3_5.
If i put the same memory,model... 3 x 1 GB in the empty slots ( DDR3_2 / DDR3_4 and DDR3_6 ) what do you think ??
Thanks.

Definitely go for the extra kit of 3. For two reasons because the kits are all checked for compatibility and because you will then be using the full triple channel mode.

You limited yourself to 6GB if you go 6 x 1GB of RAM but you can go 3x2GB with your 3x1GB kit to make 9GB of RAM but if you don't need more then 6GB go with another 3x1GB kit.

I didn't understand what do you mean by ' extra kit of 3'

I think i'll never use more than 6 GB
So,if i go with 6 x 1 GB , is that stil tripple channel ?

Yes. Just get another triple memory kit of 3x1Gb and you will be fine. That way it will run in triple channel mode.
