Title: GA-MA790X-UD3P: Realtek HD Audio Device sometimes missing.
Post by: verschoor on August 21, 2010, 01:34:05 pm
Running Windows XP with AMD Phenom II X4 on the GA-MA790X-UDP3 bios version: F4.

When I build this system the HD audio would load fine, but now intermittently, so it's no contiguous problem, the Realtek HD Audio Device just wont start, and I have no audio in windows, and the Realtek HD Audio Device is not to be found in Windows XP Device Manager.

I conclude that during BIOS-POST the HD Audio Device is just not started, otherwise it would show up in Window's Device Manager.
It can't be a driver problem in Windows neither, because if a driver won't load somehow, the HD Audio Device would still show up in Device Manager.

After I reboot, most of the time the Realtek HD Audio does load, but sometimes it won't.

Does anybody have an idea?

Tia.

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

The first thing I would suggest that you try would be to update your BIOS. You can download the latest version from here: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3107&dl=1#bios if you are not sure how to update BIOS check out this FAQ which might help. http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2441.0.html I wouldn't recommend using the @BIOS utility for Updating BIOS. Use the QFlash utility instead.

Using the same Gigabyte link you can also download the latest Realtek Driver if you are not using that.
