Title: PROJECT :: Elemental Dragon V2
Post by: Elemental_Dragon on May 19, 2009, 07:25:49 pm
My gramps gave me money today (2yrs B-day + XMAS backloaded) so I've ordered my new i7 920, Gigabyte X58-UD4P and OCZ 2000Mhz RAM. Hoping to get some nice OC's out of it :D

Will post more as well as pics as soon as it's all here :D

D0 stepping I hope :)
If it is then 4Ghz + will be a breeze.

Aye! Wouldn't have it any other way! I'm aiming for ~4.8Ghz :D

- i7 920 D0 (Batch # -confirm tomorrow-)
- 6GB OCZ Gold 2000Mhz
- Gigabyte X58-UD4P
- OCZ 30GB Vertex SSD
- WD 300GB Velociraptor
- Windows XP x64

Haven't decided on card.... I'm still waiting on Asus giving me an RMA on my 4870X2. I sold the other 1 already... Maybe Gigabyte would like to help me out here? :D

Whole thing is going into my watercooled dragon (AKA my custom cut Lian Li V2110) so hoping to get some good clocks out of her. It's not going to be record breaking (unless I'm REALLY lucky or work out something someone hasn't) but it's going to be fast :D

Post pics of a happy me tomorrow with all my goodies hopefully!

UPDATE #1 - Shiney things arrive in Bex's home!!!

Obviously getting rid of all the Asus crap and having some proper quality materials for the first time, in a long time, well..... it makes me feel all warm n' fuzzy inside!!!

Sadly... it has to go into this ugly mofo for now.... *grumbles*

I'll update this post further tomorrow. Bit late just now...

Man I so want an SSD!
Shame about the case, but that is a decent setup.
I prefer Gigabyte motherboards now over other brands, they just seem more stable (especially vs my 780i)
How much did that case cost with the watercooling and customisation? It looked expensive from that other picture from another thread.

I just don't want to ever deal with Asus again. I got an email back the other day saying my GPU RMA will be at least another month *face palm* and that's DIRECT through a member of staff as Asus with VIP status... (supposedly it's faster than the standard 3-9 months I've recently endured with my last 3 Asus products)

So Gigabyte, if you're reading, send me a GPU please? :P

My dragon case is er... well... yes - very expensive. I think the case with all the cooling was ~£800. I spent far too much to be perfectly honest, but considering that includes all the cooling gear, it's not horrendous... Needs to go back for a few minor tweaks but once it's back, the PC gets moved into that case instead and I can get it cooled and OC'd :D

Whoa what? My Asus 680i RMA'd in one week, no lie! EVGA took 2 weeks on my 8800gts 512mb SSC, and for now all my components are working smoothly bar from the excess gpu heat, really should get a block for it.

Badbonji, you'd get an RMA that quick if you RMA'd with your sales person, but not with Asus direct. Asus have changed their centres as of last yr (the RMA centre isn't far from where I stay actually) and it's a joke!

Stupid Asus... *grumbles* ....my Gigabyte is working like a dream though! I just sadly don't have any where I can put it right now though.... :'(

Elemental_Dragon, just a heads up theres been a high failure rate with 2000mhz DDR3 Ram modules, Corsair and OCZ are already recalling elpida HYPER chip based kits. You may want to look into if your kit is affected and return it if so.  ;)

Not that high, but high enough to cause a risk in damaging their profits with returns etc. I am sure it will be fine and memory has lifetime warranties usually anyway.

It is pretty high - the eplida chips are dying like... well... flies?

My RAM seems to be OK so far *touch wood* but I've not pushed it much. Still waiting on my case coming back :(

Well I've been overclocking a wee bit on the stock cooler. Not much as temps are limiting me. But even the small OC is proving to give a nice performance increase (2000+ in 3D Mark 06).

i7 920 D0 @ 3.2Ghz Stable (Min 50c, Max 82c - Average COD4 Load - 67c)

Going to see if I can push it a wee bit more on the stock cooler. Hopefully have it under water by the weekend. :D

Nice, how high are temps and is it stable?
I just use 4Ghz for daily use as I find it fast enough :)
I am using a Black Ice GTX480 in my loop with a EK Supreme and an MCP 655 pump, just got all of it a couple of days ago, and as far as temps go it dropped from 74C at 4.35Ghz to 65C with a 19-20C ambient.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH - new BIOS is nice - loving the v drops when it's not required but JESUS!!! I want my BCLK of 223 back!!!

*Face palm*

I forsee a hardware mod coming on... 4.6Ghz just isn't fast enough. If I can manage 4.7Ghz then I'm in the HWbot league again...

...

...

Unless you guys want to upgrade me to a UD7? :D

Hi Bex

Is that F10K bios being so problematic with BCLK?
Title: Re: PROJECT :: Elemental Dragon V2
Post by: Elemental_Dragon on January 26, 2010, 05:57:13 pm
F10 lets me up to BCLK222 easy, I noticed the multiplier goes up to 21 AND there's TB Enable option? I haven't played with that exactly BUT I think my board might be about to kick it. Won't boot with anything past 4.2ghz TB disabled.

Just loves booting and BSOD'ing once Windows tries to kick up even with known working settings and adjusted settings. Think it's the board rather than the BIOS though as I rolled back and same thing - Not been the same since like F8A but the newer BIOS's let me use lower volts which keep my temps down.

Really disapointed that my stable clocks are slowly dropping though :(

BTW - can we please get some "modify post" buttons? It's hard to fix broken images without them!

Modification is only possible within a few hours after post is done.
But for you Bex I will try to be flexible  ;D - just contact me by PM, then I will enable it for you to have longer time (1 or 2 days) to fix these pics' links.

!!! - UPDATE - !!!

Didn't like the plain hosing. Decided to be adventurous....

Throw in some new powerful fans!

Decided on the Kaze's in the end. Denki was cack quality and poor air in comparision!

Also decided my pump was too weak for the job in hand...

Add an EK Dual D5 top and you get a monster pump!

How powerful?

........that powerful!!!

And last but not least! My new PSU! Silverstone 850W decided to chuck it. Gives power but the motherboard won't boot with it. I think there's a short in the 24pin but I CBA stripping it and testing etc

Just when you thought PSU's couldn't get any bigger....

Well that's all for now until I get my GPU sorted or under water and fix my mobo problems!
