Hey guys!
Just built my computer and transfered my two IDE disks from my old one to transfer my data to new disks.
The thing is that the disks are fine in the old computer and they're not even recognized in the new one.
I've got them both slaves .. been trying to disconnect and reconnect drives. Having them alone and everything but still they're not detected.
Is there any solution in BIOS. Maybe some kind of "turn on IDE"? =)
Really need my stuff over to the new, fresh ones!
thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum. It would help if you could give us some idea of the rest of your system hardware and OS etc.
-
Thank you!
OS: Windows 7
I read somewhere else that I need to enable something which is called giga raid controller to make the IDE work.
All the GSATA IDE Controllers are enabled as default .. so, can't be that one?
The computer is working fine compared to the IDE's ...
-
What I also have to say is that the IDE disks do have some years on their heads..
So, maybe that's something that has to do with the problem .. but, they are working fine in the other computer!

Hi there,
When you installed your OS did you set IDE, AHCI or RAID in BIOS?
Have you tried setting IDE drives as one to Master and one to Slave?
What revision is your motherboard? (you can find this number on the Motherboard box or printed on the bottom left hand corner of the Mobo)
Which Version of Windows 7 are you running (Home, Pro, Ultimate) and is it 32 or 64 bit version?
-
Hey!
I didn't set anything for the drives when I installed the OS. It found my SDD disk and my other SATA-disk without problems. So, I've got the SDD as master and the 3.5 SATA disk as slave.
I've tried the IDE's as master, slave and cable select.
My mobo has Revision number 2.0.
Running Windows 7 Enterprise
Thanks guys for being soooooo quick! =D

Right you should have one of the IDE Drives set to Master and the other set to slave.
Could you check in BIOS to see how the SATA controllers are set and let us know?
You will find this information under the heading: Integrated Peripherals
EDIT: sorry should have double checked: When you Boot up are the IDE drives being found during POST?
-
Allright .. I'll try that one!
I'm transferring all the files from the old PC to the new one over my LAN atm .. so, can't restart the computer! =D
And no .. the IDE's are not found during the post! =(
-
restarting in five minutes...

Screen shot brought to you by: Iphone 4 ! ;)
allright .. that's my settings .. looking good or bad ?
Gonna try to set the first one to master and the second to slave now and see how that goes!
cheers!

Okay .. now I've got the two IDE's in the new PC ..
Still nothing appears in post and no disks found in BIOS at all.
It has to do with the controller settings or something!
I mean, i shouldn't have to download drivers for the disks, huh?
-
Sorry Martin but a couple more questions I'm afraid.
What other HDD's do you have in this system?
What SATA ports are they attached to?
Are you using a RAID Array at all?
Trying to get a handle on your PC configuration as, from your screen shot, I can't really see why the IDE drives aren't being seen.
The fact that they are not being found during POST indicates a BIOS setting needs changing and the only thing I can see is that GSATA 8_9 IDE Ctrl Mode might benefit from being changed to RAID/IDE from its current setting of IDE.

Try one or all of the following.
Have one drive on the cable set to master not cable select.
Try another IDE cable.
Look in windows disk management in case its not assigned a drive letter.
Install this driver.

allright man ..
I'll do like this! =D
I've transferred all my data from my old d*mned IDE drives now. They're like six or seven years old. Everything else in the computer is totally new and I think the worse thing to do is to install two old grand dads who are old enough to retire!
Thanks for your help though man!!!
take care!

that once I've already tried .. and I've used 5 different IDE-cables to!
The system is not good for IDE-disks .. that's for sure! =D

Yes also well known too... the IDE is off a jmicron chip so if it don't like your IDE's best bet is to get a IDE PCI card.
In case there is a built in disable for IDE because of how many controllers this board has try disabling “GSATA 6_7/IDE Controller” in the BIOS.

Interesting. I have a few legacy PATA 120-300GB drives I occasionally need to transfer backup files from, and on my UD3R it is very hit or miss as to whether they will be found at startup. Sometimes they are there at POST, sometimes not.
As soon as I reconnect them back into the old server they are detected every single time. Same IDE cable used btw. Either the socket is badly designed/manufactured and the IDE cable end has to be pushed in just right, or the JMicron firmware on my UD3 is suspect.
Overall, I'm left distinctly underwhelmed with GB quality control, not sure I'll get another GB board next time around. I've always gone with Asus in the past and never had a problem. Ho hum...
