Title: GA-X58A-UD3R shutting down after an hour or so
Post by: Briody on August 27, 2010, 03:43:20 pm
I just finished building a workstation with these specs -

GA-X58A-UD3R (Rev2)
Kingwin ABT-1000MA1S 1000W PSU
Western Digital AV-GP 1TB SATA
LG 10x Blu-ray drive
24 gig ram G.Skill Ripjaws PC3 10666
PNY Quadro FX4700 X2
Win7 Pro 64-bit

Windows install went well and everything seems to be working.  However the machine just shuts down after an hour or so.  All fans are running and everything will be working then the computer will just shut off.

I haven't touched anything in the bios.  Everything is AUTO and default.

Any ideas appreciated.

Have you checked the Windows power settings?
Does it happen even if you are using it at the time?

Hi there,

first thing that springs to mind is have you got your CPU cooler attached properly? You could be shutting down because of high temps.

I have not checked the Windows power settings.  I'll do that!

The CPU cooler seems fine.  It's the stock cooler and doesn't seem really robust.

If it is the stock cooler even more reason to check it. Often they don't fit properly at one corner. Make sure all four feet are attached firmly.

Solved!  ;D

One corner of the fan was not fully clicked in.  I clicked it in and the machine's been running for 3 hours.

THANK YOU!

No problem, just glad to have helped. It is quite a common problem to be honest and didn't take a lot of working out. ;)
