Purchased as a factory reworked and having major problems with all of the nics dropping connection after an hour or so.
Running latest Win7x64 drivers, latest BIOS, tried various combinations of settings in device manager TNA, even purchased new 500w psu.
Anybody shed any light?

Sounds like a component overheating somewhere. If they work for a while and then fall over it is normally down to heat.I would say take out a ticket with GGTS and see what they say but it sounds like a motherboard fault.
-
Thanks for replying.
Thought about that, but it shouldn't be an issues, as I have..
1 x 120mm intake
1 x 120mm exhaust directly behind Freezer 7 Pro on CPU
2 x 120mm intake blowing onto motherboard
North/South bridge heatsinks warm to touch.
-
Your case may be at a low enough temperature but that doesn't mean that some component on the motherboard or elswhere isn't getting too hot. Maybe through a fault.
-
OK, thanks have logged with support.
-
Well after attaching a small heatsink to southbridge, helped to reduce temps, the board has finally given up and now fails to post.
Any idea how long it take GB to send an acknowledge email for ticket?
How do I stand for a repair under warranty with this being a "reworked" board?
-
Generally GGTS takes around a week to answer the questions. I am not sure on how you stand regarding the reworked board. Was it a factory rework? If so then I guess that you would have a good chance of claiming the warranty.
-
Supposedly a factory reworked, box still has old RMA number on it.
I have managed to get the thing working again, it bounced around trying to do a auto bios recovery a few times.
So replaced cmos battery to be on the safe side, now can only read gpu and boot hdd info using CPUID hardwrae monitor and if I power off or do a restart, system fails to boot. Have to switch it on an doff a few times before it kicks in.
Daft thing is, when its up, its running better now than before, computers, don't you just freekin love em. ::)

Can you post a list of your hardware including PSU please?

Quiet! I wouldn't go shouting about it someone might hear ;D Besides someone has to do it.
To be honest I really didn't think you were a noob from your specs. I thought maybe the problem was power supply but even though you don't have a lot of headroom I wouldn't think that you are over your limit. There is nothing there in your list that stands out as problematic.
The BIOS doesn't leave you with any options update wise. You haven't listed the actual model of the memory so I couldn't check that it was compatible but that might be worth doing.

G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-8000C5 (2x2GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ)
http://www.gskill.us/145.pdf
Should be OK, they only warn about populating all 4 dimms on a 680i / 650i.
-
Assuming the memory is ok then I would say you will have to RMA the board. Might be worth just running Memtest86+ on the modules first though.
-
Done that 100% OK, also plugged them into my sons Asus PK5 + Q6600 and no issues.
Don't think I can do any more, so awaiting reply from support.
-
No to be fair it was only a long shot but worth a try. The fact that they worked in another board doesn't of course prove compatibility. Can't think of anything else to try so as you say will have to wait for RMA. Hopefully not too long. ;) Please come back and let us know how you get on though.
-
Off it goes tomorrow, looks like its just out warranty, but GB will have a crack, nice of them.
Have took piccies, you never know. ;)
-
That's good news. Like I said runn3R does what he can. Just as well you took the pictures just to be on the safe side.
-
Well it's back and too make sure, swapped the 500w psu for a nice 750w Model HP-750-G14C+ specs ..
+5v 30A and +3.3v 28A = 180w
12v1 18A and +12v2 @ 18A and +12v3 @ 18A and +12v4 @ 18A = 650w
-12v @ 0.8A = 9.6w
+5vSB @ 3A = 15w
Plugged in the basics and even used the nice 8-pin cpu power lead and the extra power molex.
Nothing, lights go on, fan spins and it just sits there.
Remove memory, detects its missing.
Remove GPU, detects its missing
Make sure CPU isn't fubar, plugged in a Celeron 3Ghz from another PC, nothing.
Plugged in generic working DDR-800 and NV6200, nothing.
According to GB and I quote email "We advise this item has been tested with no fault(s)/errors found on our test systems", yet paper work says error P06 system no boot no display.
So am I wasting my time, a little disappointed nothing could have been done for something a few months of our warranty if I understand the way the serial number determines this, waste of another £11 sending it to GB.
-
I am surprised to be fair. I would be inclined to PM runn3r and ask him to look into it. At least he will find out more than you have been told I'm sure. Have you checked that all the capacitors look alright and not blown(stained or bulging on top)?
-
CAPS good no bulging or leaks, will ask runn3r.
-
Might be worth just clearing the CMOS beforey ou give up on it as they might have changed the settings when testing it. :-\
-
Yep done it and left overnight, TNA.
If its a new board looking at Asus P5Q Deluxe P45 Socket 775 £83 or can you recommend a well proven solid (no funny quirks) GB board, but must support min 5 sata 3Gb/s?
-
I am sure that there nmust be many good GB boards that meet your requirements. Personally I don't like recommending a particular board as I would want to choose my own. Just check out the available ones and when you have something in mind do a search of the forum and see what comes up.
-
Found the problem stopping the board from starting up.
Went back to basics and stripped it out onto workbench, disabled everything that wasn't needed, sata controllers, nics, hooked up old x1300 gpu and 40gb ide, low and behold works, even installed Win7.
Put it back in the case with same config, fails to startup, after 2 hours of farting around, its the front panel usb connection.
So looks like its going back to PC World and a refund .....
-
Well done. All sorted at last. It is often something stupid like that but please I must ask you to refrain from swearing on the forum! We do not allow phrase like PC W***d! ;D
-
Frack it, opened my big mouth, lasted 6 hours and fubar.
Gave up, trashed the ****** and ordered a new E5400 and not wanting to get wrong for swearing Asus P5Q Deluxe, couldn't resist the price. :-*
Oh well, did get PC **** to give me the next case up the range free. ;D
Don't worry still have a couple of GB's around, so will no doubt be back, thanks for all the help DM, your a star and should be given a job with GB.

Yes I keep telling them that but I think that only makes two of us who think so ;)
Anyway stay around the forum you might be able to help someone else.
