Title: ex58 ud5 - Ram not gettting detected, 4gb detected out of 6gb in bios
Post by: wingzero on September 02, 2010, 01:30:09 pm
Hello there,

So i got 6gb ram kit pi black 1600mhz cl7  (2gb x 3)
Got i7 920 and the board

rest of rig specs

vx450
gtx 260
seagate 500gb x 2
audigy 2 zs

Problem is the board doesn't detect ram in 1st and 2nd slot.  The ram sticks are fine as system boots up with indivdual sticks on other slots.
It even detects all 6gb if i use other combination of slots than the tri-channel setup ie. rams in 1st, 3rd and 5th slot(white).

The rams do get detected on windows(right click my computer> properties) and even cpu-z and everest detects the sticks but the 2gb is not usable
shown in task manager and other applications along with the bios.  It does show up to set latency too in the bios.
What can be the problem?

One more thing the board i got had f7 bios and till i flashed it to f12 it was giving 69h(turn on L2 cache) error on LED and when i flashed it shows c1 error and no display.

Running windows vista sp1.

Help appreciated.

Well on recent form I would say the first thing to check is if there are any bent pins on the CPU sopcket. You will have to look carefully. If there is I would suggest taking a macro photo of them. Then post back.

Hey mantis if that's the case would it detect the stick from other slots??....cos the 6gb does get detected if i put it in any other valid slot other than slot 1 or slot2.

Yes, we have noticed some very unusual things from these bent pins. It doesn't seem to folllow logic but this is exactly the sort of symptom.

I dont have  a good cam so i cant take a pic. anyways even i checked regarding the bent pins 20mins back.  all i could make out was 2 pins missing near one of the notches (on the same side of the golden arrow head). I think that's by default rite?.

in this pic its on left side

That looks correct. I haven't heard of any with pins missing anyway only bent.

Okay so m facing same prob as others.  On cold boot it wont detect 6gb. while it would show the timings and all in the bios for all channels A,B,C
Upon restarting it shows 6gb usable and in triple channel.  This issue seems to be faced by a lot of people with ud5 board

I would think then that it will take  a new BIOS update to fix the problem.
