Title: GA-M68M-S2P- unable to start and CPU fan spins very slowly
Post by: coolboy92 on September 06, 2010, 04:42:24 am
Hi all,

I had purchased Gigabyte Mobo model GA-M68M-S2P 2 with AMD2 processor two months back. It was working fine but suddenly yesterday it  failed to start. I opened my cabinet and found that the CPU fan was spinning very slowly. Also when I start the lights on the keyboard(Num and Caps)  fail to glow.  I have tried another power outlet and its the same issue. I have restarted the system several times but same pproblem. I also removed all connectors from HDD and DVD-RW and started the mobo but same problem....
Any help on theis ????

Rgds

Hi there,

My first guess would be the actual PSU is failing as the symptoms you describe are almost identical to those I have encountered before.
What is the make & Model of the PSU?
Is it possible to try a different one?

Hi,

I tried another PSU but the problem is the same... so I took it from where I purchased it and found that its a motherboard problem and gave it for in- warantee repair.

Actually gigabyte says they will not replace the board but will only repair it. :( :( Is it the same in other countries too.

Hi,
sorry to hear that it is actually a faulty Motherboard. :'(

When a motherboard is returned under warranty Gigabyte will first attempt to repair the fault, if they can't do so then they will replace the board. From my understanding, this is the same for all countries.

I don't know where you are from but in the UK the law states that you are entitled to a replacement item (not repair if requested) within the first twenty eight days. Would you mind updating your profile which can be found at the top with your location please. It can make it easier to answer if we know where the poster is.

hi there,

I got myboard repaired in 5 days and its working fine.... I told  the service guys as to  what they have repaired or changed, but he said that they dont say what they haverepaired/replaced. Upon cheching the board closely I cannot see any solding marks. The only thing which looks changed is the motherboard battery!!!.

Hi Coolboy92,

Pleased that you are now up and running.

It is very annoying when repair people won't tell you what they have done and I don't really understand why they do this, unless they think they are protecting their jobs!  :o

I used to work in a repair facility and I have seen on plenty of occasions where a board has been tested and there is no apparent fault straight away so it is just shunted out as NFF. That is more likely what they are covering up. ;)
