Hi all , i have got a problem with the new F7 bios and am hoping someone can help ( logged a ticket with Gigabyte but no reply still so far ) . Anyways after updating i now find that most times i restart my machine it will stop after showing the bios version ( ie no cpu id message , ram size etc ) and will need the reset to be pushed , the code reader on the board always displays 50 at this pont , i have tried disabling all usb legacy options with no change . The bios settings are just set to optimal and i am using xmp profile 1 for my corsair 1600 ram , proc is a i7-930 at standard clocks . This never occured with F6 which is what my board shipped with , any ideas ? .
-
Ok i have done some more testing as this was getting annoying . I have rolled back to the F6 bios and the issue has gone away completely , now back to a nice stable machine :) , so it seems to be something in the F7 causing an issue as it comes back with problems when that is installed . I would also add that i am using pretty much all the back USB connections including the USB3 devices if that helps ?! .
-
Well as I said earlier (in another thread) my setup seems to be almost identical to yours, so if we can start from there. Can you list all your hardware, including PSU and OS please( I know the OS is not the issue but just for a complete picture)?
-
ok hardware is
800d case
x58a-ud7 rev 1
i7-930
3*2gb 1600 corsair dimms
2*gtx280's
corsair hx1000 psu
samsung blu ray player / dvd writer
win 7 ultimate 64
ps2 keyboard & mouse
stuff plugged into usb's
zboard
iphone dock
samsung printer
2 * ambx light sets
joystick
sidewinder x8 mouse
Thinks thats about it , as above issue has not occured since going back to F6
-
Thanks for the details, as you can see from my signature the setup is very similar apart from the watercooling. ;)
I see you are running the rev 1.0 board the same as me, a much better board in my opinion.
As you say now you have reverted to the F6 BIOS your system is stable again so that proves the BIOS update theory doesn't it. It's just that I am using the new F7 BIOS update and have had no problems so far. Is your BIOS setup standard or have you tweaked it at all? Apart from the XMP for the Corsair Dominators and the disabling of all the power saving modes mine is standard.
-
I did'nt bother with my cooling but its liquid on the cpu and gfx are on air .
Only things i changed in the bios were the xmp profile , apart from that everything was left as set by optimal while testing this out ( now i'm back on the F6 i have put other settings the way i prefer them but tried F6 as optimal and still have no problems ) .
With F7 i tried optimal , fail safe and my own settings but all gave the same results .
-
So fairly much the same settings apart from the power saving ones. If you want to try the F7 BIOS again it might be worth trying disabling them like I have done and see if that makes a difference. It is surprising how many problems(seemingly unrelated) are caused by these settings.
-
ok , tried it again and disabled all power saving options but it did it again on 2nd reboot . I've dropped back to F6 again and will wait to hear from tech when they read my mail , hopefully they'll come through with a fix or new bios at some point .
-
The only other option I can suggest is to use one of the latest beta versions. I think they are up to about F7v. If you are interested you can get it on Tweaktown : http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/28441-gigabyte-latest-bios.html
-
Thanks , i've been lurking on tweaktown a while but did'nt use any of the beta bios's as i thought i'd wait until it went to full release to save any hassle ! ( last beta i saw was f7w ) , i presume that the F7 on gigabytes site is newer than the beta's ? .
-
No, normally the betas are newer but not always stable. By the time they are thoroughly tested and put on the official website they are obviously older.

Sorry to hear about your problem dude, like Mantis I'm running Rev 1.0 and I updated to F7. So far so good, but I'm not running any profiles for my corsair sticks.
Can I ask how did you carry out the update to the bios?
-
I just used the @bios programe , did the update from a file option , worked fine so far , been back and forth between F6 & 7 a few times over the last few days
-
Purely for future reference I wouldn't advise the use of the @BIOS program. It can be far too risky and leave you with a non-functioning motherboard. Much better is to use the included QFlash that is available by holding downn the "END" key when booting. Much safer and easy enough to do.
Sorry to hear about your problem dude, like Mantis I'm running Rev 1.0 and I updated to F7. So far so good, but I'm not running any profiles for my corsair sticks.
Why are you not using the XMP option?

Wasn't sure which one I should select :-\
-
Just go into the BIOS and go to the MIT section and select the Extreme Memory Profile which should be disabled by default. When you select it there should be the option of using Profile 1. Unless you have very special memory that is the only option you will get.
-
Yep was going to say the same , bit pointless buying expensive memory otherwise , you'll find it'll get 7.9 in the windows exp index then ;D
-
Ok chaps I selected the XMP Profile today and all I get is a hanging boot. Do I need to up the voltage on the DDR's?
-
No that's the whole point of using a "profile". It is all the settings for the modules optimised for the best performance. ???
Can you post which memory modules you are using(I mean the complete part number)?
Was there more than one profile you could choose?
-
I have just read through your thread again and it would be worth trying removing all your USB devices before booting and see if you still had a problem. If you don't you can then add them one at a time until you find the problematic device.
-
Yes i came to the same conclusion , got it down to 3 devices which will cause it to stop now , still dealing with tech atm as i think whatever they changed in F7 for improved support for USB3 ports is causing the issue , all the devices are working fine with F6 and worked fine on my old rig only thing thats changed is the bios , trouble is getting them to understand that .
FYI devices that have issues with F7 are microsoft X8 mouse , Ideazon Zboard & AMBX light sets .
-
Thanks for the update and please let us know how you get on with the tech dept.
-
Hi again Dark mantis , LONG time since i posted on this but thought i would update you . I ended up reverting back to F6 as i was going round in circles with tech support but last week i flashed the ( now removed ? ) F8 bios and that is working fine , no issues at all as far as restarting or shutting down . The only minor issue i have is using the energysaver app it appears that my powerphases are all running all the time whereas before most of them would shut down when the machine was idle and thats with all the powersaving c modes enables in bios .
-
Hi as you say long time!
I am glad that you finally seem to tbe winning but it has taken some time now. I don't know why they have removed F8 from the BIOS updates but maybe they found something in it that still needed some work. It may even be to do with the power phases that they are looking at it again.
-
I don't know either but seems to be fine here ;D , tbh i don;t think it's a UD7 specific as they appear to have pulled a lot of boards latest updates around the same time , just glad its resolved although i'm now waiting to see what LGA2011 brings us shortly :D
-
The 2011 is certainly something to look forward to. It is more of an upgrade to the X58 with it's multi channel support for the memory etc. I am definitely waiting to be able to try it out. ;)
