Title: H55N-USB3 freezing system
Post by: padluke on September 19, 2010, 11:47:11 am
Hi all,
I have big problem. My configuration:
H55N-USB3
Kingston DDR3 4GB (Kit 2x2048MB) 1333MHz CL9
Intel Core i3-560 3.33GHz, 1156, BOX
HDD WD 1TB
Power: 250W
case:http://www.jcp-tech.de/en/products/mini-itx/id/39053.html

problem: When I start system (Win7) and start whatever benchmark system during 10-20 minuts freez and during 5-10 seconds pc go power off.
I did test RAM Memtest - test OK, I did install Win 7 on another drive. still freez. When I copy data from hdd to usb hdd, during 15 min, freez :-(((
I noticed one thing, when start 3D benchmark or benchmark in Everesr software and plug usb memory stick or usb hhd = system freez.

Temperatures (Everest): CPU 48C, HDD: 41, chipset 57C.

What do I have?
All components are under warranty.

Thank you and sorry my English
P.

The first thing that hits me is that I am surprised your system even powers on with such a low powered PSU. Even if you are using onboard graphics it must be putting a strain on it. I would double the size to allow for a little headroom and get a decent make PSU.

Dark Mantis, thank you for your reply.
I tried a different PSU (Raptor R400 - 400W) and same problem :-((( freez  :-((((

In that case I would suspect the memory. Have you checked tio see if it is on the QVL for Gigabyte or the motherboard is on Kingston's QVL?

OK. You say you used memtest can you run Memtest86+ on the modules one at a time and let it run through several loops on each.

Pull the HDD out and look at the underside for any burn marks.
Edit: Just found that you try install windows on another drive so might not be this.

Have you done a BIOS update?

Low end PSU don't work to well with power saving feature so don't install Dynamic Energy Saver also try disabling these in the BIOS for testing:

Intel(R) Turbo Boost Tech
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)
C3/C6/C7 State Support
CPU EIST Function

Hi, so I made all of your advice (by Peteruk and Dark Mantis)

1. Memtest86+ v4.10, pass 10x, each memory module = NO ERRORS
2. CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E), C3/C6/C7 State Support, CPU EIST Function DISABLING and  I do not use Dynamic Energy Saver = Still freez
3. Yes I have latest BIOS v. F5

So, I go and throw it on the rocks :-)))

I try to install Xp.

Well we seem to have covered just about everything apart from checking the CPU socket for bent pins. You will have to remove the heatsink/fan asssembly from the CPU and then carefully remove the chip. Next you wil need to have a close look at the pins in the CPU socket and see if any are slightly bent. If you are at all unsure please post some macro photos here for us to see.

Well the pictures were quite good quality so I can't moan about that. After careful scrutiny though I couldn't see any bent or misplaced pins. Sorry for your trouble but it was worth looking as there have been a lot of them recently.

Next thing is to build it up on the bench bit by bit. Make sure that you lay some cardboard or other non conductive sheet down first and thenplace on it the motherboard with only the CPU/Fan/Heatsink, buzzer, one stick of memory in the first slot and the PSU. When done try and POST. Then let us know what happens.

Do you have any USB devices in the USB 3 ports (they are the ones where the NIC is)? Try not using them.

Try the board out of the case?

Sooooo, I did everything as you advised me. Build it up on the bench bit by bit and the problem still persists.
I got mad and took parts in the service. People in service test parts  about ten hours and the result is everything is fine :-(
The only difference. They used Win 7 Pro I used Win 7 Home Pro, They used 2GB Kingstone and I used the same ram but 4GB. They used driver from original cdrom and I used latest driver from internet. They make BIOS to the DEFAULT setting.
So that's about all.
I'm really embarrassed.

When you say you took all the parts in to the service center can you please list exactly what you had checked? Assuming the service centre techs are telling the truth we must find the difference between your place  and theirs.

Peteruk:  I not useing USB3 devices.
Its not if you got any USB3 devices its if you got any USB devices in the USB 3 ports.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I don't know what was the outcome of this thread but I do remember another member having a similar problem that was solved in the end. He was finding that the USB transfer would always stop in the same place. I cannot remember how it was fixed so maybe you want to do a search of the forum.
