Title: GA-X58A-UD3R & RAM ?
Post by: A. Waheed on September 22, 2010, 10:29:42 pm
Hi , I'm new to this forum .
I'm planning to buy the wonderful GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard . Regarding RAMs , the board has 6 RAM sockets , 3 blue & 3 white . Can I install 2GB RAM / 1800 MHz in each of the white sockets & at the same time 4GB RAM / 1333 MHz in each of the blue sockets , so that the total would be 18 GB of RAM ? Would that cause any problems ? Would that affect the ability to overclock my processor ( Core i7 930 2.8GHz ) ??
Thanks a lot  :)

Hi and welcome to the forum.
The motherboard is a good choice for general usage, but your ideas on memory leave a bit to be desired to be blunt. I am not saying what you want to do is impossible but you wouldn't half be making things difficult for yourself and not getting the best out of the board. You would be better off just sticking to the 6Gb of memory or getting twice as much of the same if you need more  for heavy duty programs.

If your thinking of having fast 6GB @ 1800 MHz and then as you use more RAM it goes into the slow stuff @1333MHz... ::) forget it all your RAM will run @ 1333MHz at the same time.
