Hello. on both my EP45-DSlR and EP45-UD3LR, having a 3 pin cpu cooler, I sometimes have, either in bios, or on easytune6, show of 0 (zero) RPM of my CPU fan.
Seeing that others have the same problem with GB mobo's on other tech forums, Id want to know more about this problem and what causes it, how to fix it.
also, Would it make my motherboard, seeing it got 0 rpm sometimes, try to give more voltage to the cpu cooler and hence put random timed load on the motherboard and system?

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte forum.
The obvious answer is that the fan you are using is three pin and the motherboard outlet is four pins as it is PWM so the BIOS can't control the speed properly. It wouldn't make any difference to the motherboard anyway so don't worry on that score. ;)

Thanks for the prompt response.
Youre saying that becuase of the 4 pins the motherboard has for the cpu fan, and the fan is 3 pins, it cant set the speed right... but, it should read the speed right on the yellow cable, no?

I think you are correct in that assumption however as you know often things are not as simple as they seem. If you go into the BIOS/PC Health Status/CPU Smart Fan Control and set it to disabled the fanm will rotate at maximum speed all the time.

Ive just did as you said. Its now 'disabled', the method of control entry below got an X near it meaning it doesn't control speed anymore, Ive saved and exit, and still, it goes from 0 to 2600 to zero and again.
1) Any idea why even now is like it? same reason as you said before
2) can i now be sure that it gets constant voltage to the cpu fan?
3) since I dont know how 'official' this forum is in regarding to an official gigabyte response - Is it an official gigabyte response or If i need one i need to open a ticket?
many thanks
-
According to the info it is suppoosed to run at full speed if disabled is chosen. Therefore I think that either the fan has a problem or the motherboard. Are you using the latest BIOS update?
-
Ive checked and I Have the F7 bios. while there are until including F11 bios's for my motherboard.
1) I know, from various places that placing the latest BIOS (flashing) can be dangerous, even if done right. I am afraid to do so.
2) again asking, is this forum and yourself official GB tech response or I need to open a ticket with GB?
thank you
-
1) BIOS flashing isn't dangerous if done properly.
2) It is the Official Gigabyte Forum and I am a Moderator but just a member the same as you. runn3R, the Admin, is a Gigabyte employee so you will have to take anything up with him of an officail nature.

Thank you Dark Mantis for all your help
Since I need an official tech support answer by gigabyte, I contacted GB Tech Support.
I will try and post here their response if it'd be helpful
Again thank you for the time and help :)

You are welcome and yes please do post their response.

Some CPU fans only spin when needed, but since your's still does the same with voltage control disabled (Where it should speed 100% always) there is a problem.
It could be either the BIOS, which can be easily updated, and safely (Here is my guide (http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/27576-bios-flashing-how-qflash-guide.html)), or it could also be a fan problem.
Have you tested another CPU fan to see if maybe the fan is faulty? If you don't have one you could test by plugging a known good fan into the CPU fan header and just connect the CPU fan to another port such as NB for now. Then if that new fan on CPU header does the same thing it would be a BIOS issue, which is probably what Gigabyte will suggest you do anyway - update the BIOS.
