Howdy all
I have a X58A-UD7 Rev.1 and I was wondering if Dynamic Energy Saver 2 is required in order for the motherboard to use the full 24 phase? Or does DES2 only give you the visuals with the LEDS?
Thanks

Hi
You do not need to install DES or any of the other free programs that come with the motherboard for full functionality. The LEDs are hardware and do not need the software program to run.

My phase LEDs only light up when I have DES2 installed, so I think you are mistaken perhaps?

No, but I think maybe we are talking at cross purposes. I thought you meant that the LEDs didn't light at all (whereas normally they light up and then extinguish as POST contiinues) but after reading your post again I understand what you meant. You wanted them on as the "Christmas tree effect". For that yes you do need to use DES.
The 24 phase is split into 12 and 12 in sequential turns and if one were to fail the other would take over.
