Title: GA-770TA-UD3: can't boot from USB 3.0
Post by: the_kid on October 25, 2010, 08:31:39 pm

Hi,

I purchased the GA-770TA-UD3 motherboard hoping I could boot from external disks using a usb 3.0 docking station. I've been able to to install the OS through the usb 3.0 port, but I can't boot using USB 3.0. On the other side, if I plug the USB cable to the usb 2.0 ports, it will boot successfully( and slowly). I have tried all the USB-HDD, USB-ZIP, USB-X options in the BIOS and it wouldn't boot. Is it possible to boot from usb3.0 with this motherboard?

I have checked for BIOS updates but the descriptions don't mention USB 3.0

Thank you in advance!

It is not something that I have come across before but I think that it is probably impossible. The USB3 ports are controlled by a different controler than the USB2 ports. I don't recall seeing any options to boot from USB3. Sorry.

It's a shame. It would have been nice....

Thank you anyway!

The only success I've had booting an OS from an external HDD is with an eSATA  cable.

Was wondering if it could be done with USB3, guess not. Would be nice if you could.
