hello my hd4890 in my GA-MA78LMT-S2 (rev. 1.3) is acting wierd. i open up gpuz and the fan speed is locke at 49% but the rpm of the fan is going from 750 to 2500 rapidly you can hear it aswell keep changing but the percentage is stuck on 49%, anyone know whats causing it?
also another problem i have is whenever i boot the computer up and i click internet explorer there is a massive pause for about 2mins and then it will load all of the ie's i have clicked.

What OS are you using?
What version of the ATI Drivers do you have?
Are you overclocking your system at all?

im using xp pro and ive done no overclock, the system is fine before i put the card in. i installed everything without without the card in and the system runs perfect. the drivers i installed are the 10.10 but i installed it last time with 10.9 and still same. oh and that pause when i boot it up only happened when i put the card in before the card was in there was no pause.

There have been a lot of problems with 10.9 and some are difficult to clear even after removing the driver.
How long has the card been installed?
What card were you using before?

that jsut with this motherboard then? because in the old one the card is in you dont get that problem

the card is a hd4890 and ive had it 2years, i brought brand new GA-MA78LMT-S2 (rev. 1.3), athlon 2 440, 2g ram and put my hd4890 in it

When you installed the 4890 did you remember to disable the on-board graphics chip in BIOS and set your INIT Display to PEG?

yeah i did that. well i disable onboard then afterwards i set it to peg but there was no change

Have you set the BIOS to use the card as the primary VGA card?
What slot do you have it in?
So you are still awake absic..

its in the pci express slot, how do you change it to use vga?

i also had this problem with an unknon device showing up, think it was audio driver of 4890 messing with onobard audio but i managed to get rid of that with uninstalling audio divers then installing then agin, i thought that was causing the pause but after it as sorted it still pauses

No I have just looked at the board and see you only have the one slot so theres no option.
The unknown device was probably the HDMI ATI hi def audio device device part of the card.

the memory is set to unganged mode taht wouldnt have anything to do with it would it?

No that's correct.
I would advise you to try removing the drivers totally and then reinstall

Did you upgrade your PSU or are you still using the same one?

another thing i find strage with this set up which ive never seen before is on the bootup black and white screen hat tells you mobo cpu ram and such under the cpu is had in brackets soemthing like (cpuid40750000003 patch) those are made up numbers by the way

yes im using same one but the psu in my old pc is 500w and cheap name which has ran it for 2years so why would it be that

Well the PSUs degrade with time so if you have been using it for two years old it is probably only actually outputting less than 440W now.

On an average system we feel that a single Radeon 4890 series requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit at minimum if you use it in a high-end system, and I feel that's a little on the safe side. Also recommended is a total of 32 AMPs on the +12 volt rails for stable power distribution (in a single card configuration).

As DM stated, overtime the actual power from a PSU will deteriorate and this could be the cause of your problems.

Even if you are using this one it is still outputting only 18amps on each of the two 12V rails.

people always say its the psu though but i have a feeling its no the psu i just wanna make sure before i have to spend antoher £60. do you know what that cpuid3489465653patchid means on the post screen?

Well, I'll say that it's NOT very likely that the PSU is the problem. If it's a brand new one it should be enough to run this card. Unless you have some VERY power hungry setup it'll probably use only 250-350W when stressed. I'm not saying it's a good idea to run this GPU off a 500W PSU but it'll do for a year or 2 if there's no other option. 18amps per rail is a minimum for this card but should work.
My vote goes to damaged / buggy drivers. It'd be best to check the card with another PC or on a clean system.

One of the reasons that so many people blame the PSU is because this is often the main cause of problems. People spend a fortune on other hardware but baulk at buying a good quality PSU and think anything will do.
The CPUID and PATCH ID that you see at POST is normal and it is telling you about your CPU.

card works fine on old system its in there now playing games no problem. with cheap 500w psu. i was googling for similar problem yesterday and someone said something like hard drive borowing memoy or soemthing what is causing but i couldnt understand what he was saying, soemthing about he changed in bios

Then this is software related. What bios version do you have? If it's not the newest ( non-beta ) then update it via Q-Flash. Maybe it'll solve this.
If that won't help then I'm afraid your best bet would be a format and fresh install of the OS. If that won't fix it then it's either motherboard's bios or something hardware not working right in your new PC.

i installed f13 bios with @bios

Don't use @BIOS! It's far more dangerous and more likely to fail than QFlash which is part of the BIOS.

Exactly, I'd reinstall that bios if I were you. Maybe it'll help.
