What's the usual turnaround time for Gigabyte technical support?
I submitted a request over a week ago and have received no answer...
-
A lot of the time it depends on where it goes to be answered. If it is a local GTS centre then as long as they are not too busy it should be a fairly quick affair but if it goes to GGTS in Taiwan it can take a week to ten days obviously depending on how busy they are.
-
Thx for that - I think it must have gone to Taiwan......
Perhaps this forum could help?
Have got a "smart command failure" problem between recently built ga-x58a-ud3r and OCZ Vertex 2 SSD.
Operating system is Win7 and everything seems to be working aok but I can see the failure message at boot.
Motherboard is REV2 bios is FA.

Please update to BIOS FC3

Use Qflash, DO NOT USE @BIOS.
Disable "Keep DMI Data" before you flash, then once finished reboot and enter the BIOS and load optimized defaults, then save/apply/reboot via F10 directly BACK to the BIOS.
Once in the BIOS again set your SATA/Disk settings, this is VERY important if you are using RAID!!
Then set your ram voltage, and any/all other adjustments you need to make, then load windows and you will be good to go.

I'm a bit nervous about this...
Not using RAID think I'm using AHCI?
Do I flash from USB flashdrive?
-
Yes, you can flash from USB but you must go into the BIOS and be sure you have USB Storage enabled in the Integrated Peripherals BIOS page, then leave the USB Stick in and reboot to Qflash. You can enter Qflash by pressing END key at bootup, or by pressing F8 from the MAIN page of the BIOS.
You will be fine, just do not flash if it is storming, and to be extra safe load optimized defaults in your BIOS before the flash and save/apply/reboot. Then go back into the BIOS and enable the USB Storage setting, then flash the BIOS.
Here is my guide in case you have any other questions about it, but it's as simple as noted above, nothing to be scared about as long as you do it in a safe manner.

As Lsdmeasap says it's not difficult to do as long as you are sensible the only problem you might encounter is if the QFlash utility wont read your USB drive. If that happens just take it out and try a different one.
-
Yeap, smaller USB seems to work better, so if you have a 256-512 you should be golden.
1-2GB generally work as well, most issues are with 4-8GB or larger.
If you end up not having a USB that works, and you do not have a floppy or a spare hard drive you can create a FAT32 partition on, I can create a bootable CD for you with the BIOS on it.
-
Read the guide thanks.
Do I have to create the bootable flashdrive section or will Qflash read without?
-
As long as you have formatted the drive in FAT32 not NTFS and then downloaded the files onto it you should be fine.

Thanks DM that's what I thought.
