Title: ga-890gpa-ud3h raid 1+0 setup
Post by: stewwmann on November 08, 2010, 06:56:00 am
hello all, I have been putting a system together for a little while now and the last major component I want to add is a raid array in 1+0 (raid 10). I plan on 4 or 5 smallish hdds. My question is although I thought I had read that this board supports raid 10 I can not find referance to it anywhere in the manual, only raid 1,5 or jbod. I have a Force 60 gb ssd as primairy drive and I need somewhere to plug in a dvd writer. currently these occupy port 0 and 1.So... is raid 10 possible? Which ports or does it mater? Also where in bios should I have anchi enabled? I need it on for the ssd I know, but then what about the dvd and hdd's.

Any aditional info on this topic related to this specific board would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

RAID10 is supported on the Southbridge SB850 Chip SATA 6Gb/s ports these are the ports called SATA3_0 through SATA3_5. If you set the controller for these to IDE it will allow you to create your RAID 10 Array and also run your DVD writer.

The G_SATA ports, identified as GSATA2_6 and GSATA2_7 can be set-up independently so if you enable the AHCI option in BIOS you can run your SSD from one of these ports.

You need to make the changes in BIOS under the heading Integrated Peripherals. Check out page 50 of the English User's Manual.

Thank you for your very helpful response. One more question. Since I already have the os on the ssd, I do not need to start over and build the raid array first before installing the os do I?

You shouldn't need to re-install the OS.

I would probably swap the SSD to the GSATA port first (if it's not on there already) and BOOT up to allow Windows to sort out any little glitches that come from swapping ports. If you have installed the OS with AHCI Mode enabled then you should be OK.

Once you're happy that the OS is up and running from the GSATA controller then you can build your RAID Array on the SATA3 ports. Don't forget to switch the SATA3 Controller back to Native IDE Mode so that you can run your DVD writer without issue. This won't affect the RAID Array so you don't need to worry on that score.
