Title: GA-EP45-UD3P with RocketRAID 2740
Post by: Dawoo73180 on November 08, 2010, 03:37:30 pm
I am disassembling a old system to use for a home server. I was woundering if anyone knew if the PCIx16 slot can be used to run a RocketRAID 2740 for a raid 5 setup. Also I would like to move my video card Calibre P960 Geforce 9600GT Down to the PCIx8 Slot. OR vice versa depending on best setup sugested. I do not need great graphics on a server but the motherboard has no graphics support. Any help would be great Thanks David

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I take it that you are actually talking about PCIE slots not PCI slots and if that is the case the cards should be interchangeable as long as they are the correct physical size. I can't say whether it will boot ok in that position but there is no harm in trying. You might find that the graphics card will only work in the top slot if so you are stuck with that. You will have to check in the BIOS and see what options there are for the GPU and set that up first.

Thanks for the info and yes pcie slots ::) I have not purchased the rockerraid card yet. I guess my first try will be to see if I can move the video card down and see what happens. thanks David

Well moving the video card seems to be working out I contacted RocketRAID and they were alittle helpful  ::) I guess I will just have to take the plunge all else fails new motherboard with built in video and support for card.

I think that you will probably be alright. My main concern was whether the graphics card would be moved and as that seems to be ok I don't forsee any other major problems. Good luck. ;)
