:-[ Purchased my motherboard Sept 2008. been apsolutely delighted until now. Switched on OK inthe morning. Atabout3pm total failure. Would not boot from floppy CD rom drive or hard disk. Lights all on hard disk seeme to be spinning - screen black. Old coputer brought back in to service using the Monitor & keyboard - so no fault there. On trying to boot up we get one longish beep. Next day try to boot up again and it works! only to crash again hal an hour later. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.
The most likely answer is that something is overheating so start from there.
Check your CPU heatsink is still fastened down firmly and the fan is clean from dust buildup and spinning as normal.
Do the same with your graphics card.
Do the same with your PSU.
Post back if you still have a problem.

Had one of them boards in a build i did for someone. @ of the ram slots went out and it behaved the same way. I finally put ram in only one slot at a time to narrow it down and after i found the problem gigabyte rma service fixed it up.

Very helpful, thanks. Heatsink re-mounted with some Arctic Silver 5 thermal grease (after a good clean with Akasa TIM clean - CPU & Heatsink cleaner). No problems so far. All going well

Well fingers crossed for you but I feel that it was the most likely solution from your account. ;)
