Hi, I have this board with a i7 870 and it has ocz pc312800 9-9-9-24 @1.65v 2gb sticks, 4 in total. It only shows in the bios 4gb enabled. It shows all the memory slots with 2gb in them but only the first two are enabled. I have updated the bios, I have moved the memory sticks around, I have memtested the ram one stick at a time with 10 passes. This is a new computer I havn't even put windows on it, I am just trying to get the memory problem fixed first. I have read about disabling the xmp profile but I don't see that option under mit. My ram is ocz3ob1600lv4gk 1600. Any idea's? thanks

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.
You won't find an XMP profile as there isn't one attached to your memory as far as I know. So it is not something that you can disable.
The OCZ memory might not be compatible with this motherboard or it is possible that there are some bent pins in the CPU socket.
Have you checked on the QVLs of both Gigabyte and OCZ to see if they are compatible?

At ocz it says Qualifed on Intel P55 Chipsets and Core i3, i5, i7 CPUs and on gigabyte it says Memory modules listed below are for reference only. Due to massive memory models on the market, we can only verify some of them. So I don't know what to do with it.

OK. This is one reason I don't like OCZ. They don't like commiting themselves to anything precise. Just because it is compatible with P55 chipsets doesn't really mean a lot. Did you not check before you purchased it?
Anyway for now let's assume it is ok. Have you entered the settting manually into the BIOS or are you relying on the "Auto" settings?

Setting are set at 9-9-9-24 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS), tRFC - 88, Command Rate - 2N and memory voltage to 1.65V.

Right as you are using all the slots you might need to increase your memory voltage a little to compensate so try putting it up to 1.66V which will probably help or even as far as 1.68Vif necessary but don't forget to make sure that the QPI/Vtt is kept to within 0.5V of that setting. It can be closer but no further away.

I put the memory volts to 1.68 and QPI to 1.19 and there was no difference.

Try 1.3V for the QPI/Vtt and 1.70V for the memory.
If it still isn't working return the settings to their original values.

OK what is your uncore settings and memory multiplier?

uncore is 2398.84 at 18x
memory is 1332.73 at 10x is that the settings you are asking about?

Yes. The uncore is too low , should be 2x multiplier +1or2 ( ie 20-22)

How do I change that I don't see a place to set the value?

MIT/uncore clock ratio/change from auto to desired number

I have under QPI ratio x32 under that the uncore ratio is locked out. I can't change it from 18x 1800mhz

If you have it set to 32 then try changing that to auto first.

for that setting the choices are auto, x32 and x36 only.

I am not sure what is going on in this BIOS but we don't seem to be winning here so the next step is to check the CPU socket.
This is a very delicate operation so extreme care is needed.
Remove the CPU/heatsink/fan and have a close look at the lands(pads) underneath the processor. Each one should have a mark in the centre (maybe more than one if it has been refitted before). If there are any without marks or the marks are far off centre then it could be a problem with bent pins in the socket.

Hi, I checked the socket and there was one bent bin in the upper right hand area of the cpu socket, I unbent it and put the computer back together and it is still the same.

Not doubting you but are you sure:
A) That there was only one bent pin? They are quite difficult to spot.
B) That when you "unbent" it the pin was as good as new?
If you are in any doubt please just take a couple of closeup (Macro) photos for us to check.

I just took it apart again and the pin is as good as new but I noticed on the bottom of the chip that not all the pads on the processor have a mark on them from the pins is this normal? I don't know how I bent one pin anyway, I only placed the processor in the socket and locked it down.

Have a look at the proceesor where the pads have no mark and then check the corresponding pin in the socket and see that it is actually in line and not bent. Also don't over tighten the heatsink down too hard on the cpu. see if that helps.

That is precisely why I asked yop to check the pads on the CPU first, but you jumped ahaed and went straight to the socket ::)
As I said before if you take some photos we can check the socket out for you.

Hi, thank you guys for all your help, this forum is great. I had a feeling the board was doa so I took it back and got another today and everything works
it show's 8gb of ram. Problem solved.
