Title: Looking at a new PSU for my main rig
Post by: Wonderwrench on November 15, 2010, 01:12:04 pm
Newegg has the Seasonic X650 on sale for $109.99 with free shipping. I'm using a OCZ 700GXSSLI at this point. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002 This PSU is made by FSP Group (Fortron Source). It had decent reviews and has worked fine for me for 3 years but I have always wanted a Seasonic built supply and at 3 years old I think I'm pushing my luck. I was hoping to score a modular 750 watt or larger supply for a decent price. It seems like its not in the cards. Newegg also has a Corsair 750HX on sale for $119.99 after rebate but its not built by Seasonic, it's a CWT unit.

Hi Bill
The Corsair HX750 is a modular PSU. If you check your link you will see it is even advertised as such. ;)

Your right, I must have been sleeping at the wheel. Its not a Seasonic built PSU though :-\  it's built by CWT. Still a good PSU but not a Seasonic.

I ended up pulling the trigger on a Corsair AX750. Final cost after rebate of $146.97 US shipped . I was not even looking at the AX series because they were out of my price range. The prices have come down considerably. I would guess an updated version is in the wings and Corsair/Newegg want to clear stock on the existing units. Reason being Seasonic has updated their X series supplies so it makes sense the Corsair AX series will get the updates.

Hi Bill
I expect you're right. What with that and the time of year they want to shift the old stock and make way for the new stuff. Good price though especially for the AX version. Wouldn't mind one of them myself 8)

Nice to see you are trying choose between different great quality psu's.  Don't ever be tempted to buy something cheap or you could find it crapping out soon or even worse crapping and frying all your other components.

There are still very many people who do exactly that on the forum. They often can't undersatnd why some cheap and nasty PSU won't power their expensive hardware safely. ::)
