hi just got my hands on h55m-d2h mobo with an i5 760 cpu and i have a prob with the mobo, when i put my video card in the pcie x 16 slot and turn my comp on it shuts down after a sec and tries again, i switched the card to a pcie x4 slot and it works the comp turns on (but i have no ram yet so nothing realy happens it just works with no boot ) so im guessing it's a problem with the pcie slot itself, so can i repair it somehow? and what will happen if i use the pcie x4 (it's a geforce 250 gts 1gb card), i have another mobo also gigabyte but a bit older also s2 so can i somehow safley switch the pcie slots from the old mobo to the new one? but i prefer an easier solution please help!.
thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte UK Forum.
Have you checked to see if the BIOS installed on your motherboard supports the CPU you have installed?
-
well the socket does 1156,how do i check it?, and what does it have to do with the pcie? like why does the x4 works and the x16 doesnt?
-
What revision motherboard is it?
-
1.4
-
The motherboard needs to be running the F3 version which is fairly likely by the looks of things.
Have you got a buzzer installed?
You may find this link helpfull for information about your board: http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3572#

whats a buzzer and what does it have to do with my problem? and btw i got the video card to run like 2 times when i tried then when i restarted the same thing happens the comp tries to run then shuts off and tries again
-
Well a buzzer would give us fault finding beeps when you started up which would help locate any problem. I would suggest getting hold of one. They are very cheap. It might just be that you haven't got any memory installed yet.
-
so it could be just the ram? but why did i managed to run the card twice then? damn im unlucky i always have some kind of problem when i buy comp hardware...

Yes highly likely. Computers need memory to run and are not very good without it. :'(
I am suprised you got any picture at all without any memory installed.
-
no mate no picture, thats coze of the ram i understand,it just runs you know all of the vents are working and stuff, the only problem is when the the VC is in the x16 slot it runs for a sec and shuts down then tries again and the same thing happens
-
I would definitely advise you to get a buzzer and some RAM! ;)
-
i have some speaker that goes on the mobo small with 2 wires connects near the pwr/rst pins is that it?
-
Yes that's it. If its a small black device make sure that you connect it the correct way round.
-
well it's not buzzing...
-
No it doesn't buzz it just emits a beep or series of beeps to let you know what is wrong when you boot up. If it doesn't make any sound it is likely that it is installed the wrong way round.
-
nope still no buzz... well all i could wish for is that the problem is in the fact i have no ram,k i'll go get some if i'll find some cheap ram
-
Just make sure before you waste your hard earned money that the memory is compatible with your motherboard. Check on the QVLs before buying.
-
ok were do i check it,and you didnt answer another question of mine , what will happen if i use the x4 slot?
-
On some boards you can decide where to place the card but of course if you choose one of the slower slots then your graphics will take a performance hit. On other boards they just don't work unless the GPU is in the x16 slot.
Gigabyte's QVL for your motherboard is here: http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_ga-h55m-d2h.pdf
Other memory manufacturers will have their own on their websites.

ok so i got the ram it's a 2gb 1333mhz , i installed the VC in the pcie x4 and it turns on beeps then before loading windows it flashes a blue screen and restarts... why?
edit: maby it's coze i have to format the hdd and re install windows?
-
Yes if you install new hardware of any significance you have to do a fresh install of Windows or you will have a lot of problems. Not only that but it gets rid of all the old junk files etc.
I don't understand why you want to install the graphics card in the x4 slot though.
-
coze the x16 restarts my comp and the x4 works fine
-
Ok I just wondered if you had even tried it since purchasing the memory.
-
checked the x16 works perfectly!!, thanks alot for the help mate!! now i'll know stuff for the next time! dam i'm happy everything is fine!! thanks again!
