Title: P55-USB3 Constantly Reboots when loading OS
Post by: BobStaMan on December 04, 2010, 08:27:03 am
Recently purchased a new custom computer, actually 2 of them, for my brother. Current specs are Gigabyte P55-USB3 MBoard, Intel i5-750 Processor, geforce gtx 460, and 650 PSU, if needed i can get the make of that as well. We tried to do a clean install of windows XP on his 1TB Western Digital HD but everytime we install, it will reboot to continue the process but then when it's "Loading Operating System" it just restarts the computer and repeats. Not once have we came to windows, never has it finished loading. Please help someone, I've tried a bunch and read a lot. Thank you.  8GB of ram as well

Ok so you tried a clean re-install of windows XP..............Did it already have a OS on it? Like win 7? And if so why did you want to do a "clean" install of the operating system anyway, was it faulty? If so take it back to where you bought it and ask then to fix it. Just out of curiosity, why did you want to do a "fresh" instal anyhow? ::)

The hard drive was fine, and at least seems to be fine. It was purchased ~1 month ago and had win7 on it as well. Problem is when we started the machine up we would get a blue screen when starting up windows, we tried to clean install windows and then this began to happen.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

What revision motherboard do you have and what BIOS version are you running on the board?
It might be that your processor isn't supported by the BIOS version you are using.

GA-P55-USB3 Rev. 2, bios is F8. Hope this helps.

Werll at least there is no problem with processor support with F8.

The other thing I would like to check on is your PSU. You have said it is 650W but not what make/model it is and some of these so called "650w" are a bit optimistic in their specs.

Ok are you using the XP disc to format the hard drive before loading the OS onto it? Are you formatting as FAT32 or NTFS? If FAT32 use NTFS....

So my parents took it to a person they know to get it up and running, took him a night and easy squeezy all is finished. Said something was wrong with the bios, it wasnt booting from cdrom as well. Now im really interested in knowing what exactly the problem was, since I have a new computer coming in this week. If anyone has info on that it would be appreciated.

Well not knowing the actual cause of the bios issue, I would hazard a guess and say it may have been trying to boot from USB device you have plugged in. He/she may have just set your boot order in Bios to stop it looking for a USB to boot from. Si instead maybe set your boot order to boot from HDD first CD 2nd and Floppy last. Just a guess.

The obvious answer to that is to ask the person who did the repair. They would be able to tell you in detail what the problem was.  ;)
