Title: GA-G41MT-D3 Rev 1.3 : No boot
Post by: Intricate on December 12, 2010, 04:04:18 am
Hello,

My computer will not boot, not even to the bios, it shuts off almost the instant I turn it on. I have replaced the PSU as well as the motherboard with the exact same model and the problem still occurs. I have correctly plugged in the connectors and everything. the PSU does meet the requirements of my system.

System specs -
Motherboard - GA-G41MT-D3
RAM - Kingston DDR3 1333Mhz 2GB x2
CPU - Intel e8500 (not OC'd)
GPU - Gigabyte 460 GTX 1GB
HDD - Western Digital 1TB
PSU - Antec TP-650

Any suggestions on what I should do?

You could have a dead board? Take the motherboard out of the machine and try to get it going on a bit of cardboard or some other non conductive surface and see it that will boot then....If so we will go from there.

Hopefully it isn't dead. I have did what you have suggested and not much improvement, the CPU and PSU fans spin for a second before shutting off, as well as the entire computer.

Ok then I would suggest a stronger PSU.....Antec don't have a good brand IMO. Take out on stick of ram and see if it will boot.

Antec was the only one at the store sorry, that and a lot of 500 watt un-named PSU's.
I've taken 1 stick of ram and tried to boot, did not work, I've switched both and neither of them seem to help with the boot problem.

Ok lets reset the cmos, so take out the mobo battery and leave it out for about ten minutes...Put it back in and try reboot. Turn the machine off first LOL. And when battery iss out you can just bridge the cmos jumper to short it.

Unfortunately that didn't work either. Seems that there is no solution for this problem at all.

Ok here is a little test I ant you to do. Unplug your 24 pin molex off the board and get a paper clip and bridge the green wire with any black wire and see if the psu powers up.

The PSU fans are spinning, but quite slow.

Ok I think your PSU could be the culprit.

Ok I think your PSU could be the culprit.

Ok thanks for that, I'll have my retailers check it out and have it replaced. Thanks for your effort and time.

This is pretty awkward. I had someone test out the PSU on their computer, it worked completely fine for him. Though the fan was spinning at a slow-ish rate. Now I am quite confused as I thought the PSU was the problem...

Do they have similar hardware to you? Roughly the same amount of power draw?

Can you test thier psu on your rig just to rule it out?

Both computers were stripped of everything but the main hardware to boot up.
The other PSU was hooked onto my computer, at the first several boots, it had the same problem we were attempting to fix before. Then it booted past the bios and then a checksum error occurred. After a restart, it booted properly, but no hard drives were hooked up as this power supply does not have any sata cables.

Are you as confused as me? At first, I was sure it was the motherboard, then the PSU, and then back to motherboard...now...I don't know what to assume if both the PSU and the motherboard are both functioning...

I would have to agree.
On a side-note, is there a limited amount of times you could have your hardware replaced when its still in warranty?

so long as it's under warranty I guess it is limitless? Providing it's faulty of course.

Quite right. As long as the product is faulty and under warranty it is covered.

What beep code do you get when trying to boot?

Have you tried clearing the CMOS and then updating the BIOS to the latest version? It sounds as if, with your checksum error, that you may have a corrupted BIOS. Make sure that you use QFlash and disable the Keep DMI Data when updating.

Well, with the PSU i currently had, it would not even boot into the bios, let alone show you the screen to get in it. I have tried clearing CMOS, no beep codes.
When I tried it with another PSU, it magically works. I'll have the PSU replaced later today and I'll report back if my computer is working normally :)

I wouldn't be at all suprised if it was the PSU that turned out to be the culprit. Very many members make the mistake of looking everywhere but the power supply when they have problems.

Thank you so much for your help, I've logged a ticket to my PSU manufacturer 5 days ago and they still have not replied back to it...oh well, problem is fixed. Thank you both for the help :)
