Hi,
I'm having problem with the USB 3.0 interface locking up when writing to an external enclosure.
I've updated the GA-X58A-UD3R bios to "FE" which is the most recent. The external enclosure is
a Airbox USB 3.0 Enclosure from Sunbeamtech. I've use this enclosure with other machines containing
USB 3.0 adapter cards without any problems. Can anyone help ????
Thanks

Try updating the USB 3 firmware and drivers. You will need to remove all connected devices first.

2.0.32.0 Driver

Tried the updates but there's no change. The connection just locks
us when writing to USB 3.0 enclosure. I have both Windows 7 and XP on
the machine and they both act the same, any other thoughts.

Hi
Maybe stating the obvious but have you made sure that USB3 is enabled in the BIOS?
The other thing that can cause this is if the plug isn't making a good connection on one end of the cable.
-
It's enabled. I can read from the enclosure for hours on end without a problem but as soon as it try
to write to the enclosure the interface locks up after a few files have be written. Any thoughts ???
-
Are you trying to write directly or do you have write cacheing enabled?
-
I tried both ways but it doesn't make a difference, any other thoughts.
-
I think if it were me I would try another data cable in case the pins are not making a good contact and that is what is stopping the writing of data.
-
Tried 3 different length cables with the same results. Just to double check the enclosure I hook it up to my other machine which has a USB3 Adapter and it works fine. I know when I first got the Gigabye board it had rev FB bios and rev 1 usb3 drivers. When I tested it back then I couldn't even read from the enclosure. Now with the latest and USB driver I can read with no problem but I still can't write. I think at this point I'm going to open a trouble ticket with both Gigabyte & SunbeamTech and see what happens. Thanks for your help, if you can think of any else let me know.
-
No I cannot think of anything else at the moment that might be of help but I would be interested in the outcome so please post back when you have sorted it out. ???

Does it work ok without the enclosure?
It may be the enclosure causing issues.
-
The enclosure work perfectly when connected to my older PC which has a USB 3 Adapter card.
-
I would suggest you do as Lsdmeasap asks as it would still be worth checking the drive out of the case on this computer to make sure that it was receiving the sufficient voltage etc.
-
Already test both the drive & enclosure. In fact I just tried out the enclosure on a friends PC and it worked perfectly.
Any other thoughts ? I've entered a trouble ticket with Gigabyte but I haven't heard anything from them.
-
They are not exactly the fastest thing around! Usually takes about a week or so to get an answer. ::)
-
What I actually meant was, does your USB 3 ports work normally and properly with other USB Devices, or with that drive outside of and not connected to the USB Enclosure?

Hi, was there any solution on this. I have the same problem.
