Title: GA-H57M-USB3 front audio not working
Post by: yashoshah on January 05, 2011, 12:33:16 pm
Hi Dark Mantis

The front audio jacks (Headphone and Mic) are not detecting anything when i insert headphone and mic in them, though on back panel they're detected and works fine.

I checked the front panel audio connector twice, it is plugged ok.

Is there any possibility for pins of front audio not outputting the required signals??

Obviously it is possible that either the motherboard or the front panel/wiring could be faulty. It is not often that the motherboard suffers with a problem like this though, so I would tend to think it is down to the other option or a software switch.

Check the BIOS settings first and make sure the Azalia Codec is enabled although I tend to think it is as the back panel wouldn't work otherwise.

Next check all the sound card settings in the Control Panel.

Thanks for the reply.

Azalia codecs are on AUTO in BIOS. Other option is "disable".

Sound card settings in the control panel are OK.

Though a strange thing happened when I checked the box for "Disable the front panel jack detection" in connector setings-- it started working.

Really strange.

Anyway it is working with above setting.

I thought it would be something like that but why it seems to be working back to front is anybody's guess! Typical Windows!!

The front panel audio must be of the AC97 type and not HD. This happens when you connect AC97 to a HD Audio header.

Thans fadsarmy for the reply.

I will try with AC97 headphone and post later, but why it is working in reverse order?

Just bought the new case (Coolermaster HAF-912-Advanced).

Front audio detection working perfectly now with HD audio cable (in case) plugged into the audio header.

Hi Dark Mantis-

I have a query on e-SATA on this MB.

The I/O (back panel) of MB do have a e-SATA port, and now I also want to use front e-SATA port provided on this case (HAF-912 Advanced).

Is there any way to use it? As the MB do not have header for e-SATA on it.

There is nothing stopping you from using one of the SATA ports for an eSATA drive although you will have to power that drive as well. The port would need to be on a controller that was set for AHCI mode to allow for hot swapping.
