Hi,
I've recently replaced my Mobo, CPU and RAM with a kit from Overclockers (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-020-OP), install went alright, once we remembered to give it power ;)
However, when I tried it with a GPU in (ATI HD 5850), it wouldn't give me anything from the onboard graphics, and didn't beep (Which it does when it's working). I removed the GPU, and went into BIOS. I had to change the graphics settings so that it always loads the on-board graphics because it would detect the GPU, but never get past the "beep" point, so I didn't even an output.
I'm now using on-board graphics, and have the GPU in the machine.
It now booted, and Windows wouldn't load, so I re-installed Windows 7, which is fine by me. Now, whenever I install ALL drivers from the included CD, it get's to the Windows loading screen, and then the monitor turns off, I believe (Via a few tests) that it's the INF install utility, because that's when it stops working if I install them one-by-one.
Also, when I install my ATI driver (From the official website), it installs correctly, but then gives me the error "the catalyst control center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter" or another error message about the driver(s).
I've re-installed Windows 7 (Again), and I've got a blank canvas, any ideas? I'm going to go one driver at a time, but would really like to get my ATI drivers working correctly first.
Thanks for reading this long post :)

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.
Firstly you can only run either the onboard graphics or the graphics card but not both together. When you tried with the discrete GPU did you remember to connect both power cables to it as well?
As for the drivers, don't use the disk. The supplied disk is always older that the drivers available on the website so go directly to the Gigabyte site for any that you need.
I wouldn't advise installing all the included software on the driver disk either as it will just cause you more problems.

I have put both power cables in yes. When you say it can't run both, does that mean that by choosing to run onboard graphics, even Windows can;t use the GPU?
I've got it installed in the top PCI slot (I think that's the x16), under BIOS, which setting should I choose, I see PEG, PEG2, PCI and Onboard.
I need to get that part right, because when I get it wrong, it doesn't load, and I need to remove the GPU, edit BIOS again... and getting it back in is hard, it's such a tight squeeze in there, I've got a pretty big CPU Cooler.
Thanks for the help,

If you are using your addon card for the graphics and it is in the top PCIEx16 slot you must set the BIOS to use PEG.
And no if you install the card then you can't use the onboard graphics for anything.

I just tried changing the setting to PEG again, and I got no output on the display, and no beep. I've removed the GPU, and I'm going to install the BIOs update and other drivers/updates on the downloads section.
The thing I'd like to know now is, can I use onboard graphics for BIOS (Since that's all it wants to use), and then use the GPU for Windows, once it's loaded the drivers? I'm thinking this is the only way to get it to work now :(
-
You can use whatever it will let you but normally when you plug in the discrete card it will disable the onboard graphics capability.
-
I'm now fully into Windows, and have the Drivers and CCC installed from ATI. Under device manager, it states that it is working fine, but under resources, it states "This device isn't using any resources because it has a problem."
I'm starting to worry my GPU is fried :(
-
I take it that you have already tried reseating the card in the slot?
Are you sure that you were checking the correct GPU for the resources?
Which port outlet are you using for your monitor?

I've just moved it into the second PCI slot (Bottom one, 4x I believe) because I have tried reseating it, so now it's in another, free PCI slot, where I can see 100% that it's in. In the BIOS, I'm assuming this will be called PEG2?
I was checking the device which was shown in PCI Slot 1, but now I've moved it, it claims it's still in slot 1, not good.
I'm using the DVI outlet from onboard, but have plugged it into the GPU output to check, and have a second monitor in the GPU to see if it decided to detect it then, with no luck.
Thanks,

It might well be worth clearing the CMOS then if it is holding old settings.
Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.
Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least ten minutes before replacing it.
Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.
You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Opimised BIOS Defaults.
Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self and then press F10 to save and exit.
PEG = PCIE Enhanced Graphics
So yes the next 16x slot would be PEG2

Thanks for all the help, Dark Mantis.
I'm currently waiting the 10 minutes before putting the battery back in, I'll give it 15 minute :)
One small thing I've noticed is that the a small ammount of the gold connector at the bottom appears to have come off. I believe it's always been like this, and I don't how I could have done this, I've always been careful with it, I am sometimes guilty of not pushing it in enough.
I'll post some pictures of it. One side is all OK, just this one part looks dodgy.
If this is an issue, can this be easily (Or cheaply) repaired, probably not by me, but maybe ATI themselves?
Thanks,
Joseph Duffy
Edit: I've put the battery back in, loaded the pre-installed profile "OCUK" (Overclockers UK), and then optimized settings. The video option is still PCI, not PEG, but it now starts up, no beep, nothing on the monitor, turns off, and then on again, off again, seemingly infinite loop.
I'm sick of this PC now :(

For the gold connector that is normal , all my PCI-e cards are same ( also RAID .. TV ... )

Try doing as I suggested but this time dont load the OCUK profile just the Optimised BIOS Defaults.

For your 2 * video cards running Windows 7 requier similar chipset ( ATI motherboard and ATI PCI-e card ).
That is a Windows 7 Aero limitation
exemple : i cannot use ATI and NVIDIA / Matrox cards in same time
but i can use ATI HD4350 , HD4850X2 and HD5770 with WIN7
I use at this time 3 graphics cards : 1xClub3d HD4350 PCI edition ( old BUS ) + 2 * HD5770 Pci-e
*
For you the internal card is with INTEL chipset : 8086:0042 and you cannot use with ATI card
But i think that you can use this card :
http://www.ctlcorp.com/v4/p-128-pcie-add2-card-for-intel-945-and-965-chipset-motherboards.aspx
*
With Windows XP this problem not exist you can use once the drivers are working
exemple : i can use Matrox , NVIDIA , ATI mixed and all screens connected can use multiscreen with all video cards

I believe you're trying to say I can't use 2 monitors?
I'm only trying to connect one monitor, I just had a second one in incase it decided to detect that one and do something :)

Did you try this and if so what reaction did you get?

Just tried this (I was busy yesterday), and have tried it with the GPU in, with no luck. I'm going to take it out and change the settings to Optimized, but for now, I'm having some relax time. I think I'll try it in an hour or two.
Thanks for all the help! :)

After removing battery etc, and with GPU in. No boot.
After loading all optimized settings with GPU in. No boot.
After changing Init Display First to PEG with GPU in. No boot.
After changing Onboard VGA to always load with GPU in. Boot, but no output from the GPU.
I'm seriously starting to believe the GPu is dead. I don't have a clue how, but it seams dead.
I just looked on ATIs Warranty Services site, but my GPU didn't seem to be list. Plus, I believe it's over 1 year old.
I believe this was around £230-£250, so I don't want to dismiss it, does anyone know of a good repair place for such an item?
Thanks to everyone who's replied, but unless anyone has anymore ideas, I don't believe it's the Mobo, so I might have to fork out on a new GPU :(
-
I must admit it does seem to be looking that way. The good news is that as far as I know ATI and most of their GPU partners give a two year warranty.

Thanks for the info on the 2 year warranty, didn't know about that!
I've emailed OC UK, I hope it gets fixed :)
Thanks for all the help, I'll remember these things if I ever have more issues.
For now, I think this can be locked? :)
-
The only thing left. Try this GPU on another motherboard if possible.

I've asked around, but my friends have laptops or slimform PCs :( I've also asked local shops, but they just said they couldn't even look at it :(
I'm sending it off to my retailer any day I believe, just awaiting a reply :)
