Title: Ga-P55-usb3 fan headers & HAF 922
Post by: ARTO222 on January 10, 2011, 01:44:57 am
Greetings

I'd like to know if the Ga-P55-usb3's fan headers can support the fans of the Coolermaster HAF 922 case :

Front: 200 mm fan x 1 Red LED on / off fan x 1 / 700 RPM / 19 dBA

Top: 200 mm fan x 1 / 700 RPM / 19 dBA (can be swap to 120 mm fan x 2 )

Rear: 120 mm fan x 1 / 1200 RPM / 17 dBA

If there is no powering or other problem then on which headers should each of the 3 fans be connected to?
Will the speed control function work?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I have asked the Technical Section for the specs on the fan headers maximum safe laod and will post back when I get the information.

I've connected the fans and they are working.
My last motherboard manual included the fan header specs. Hoping for a prompt reply because I don't want to damage the motherboard.
Thanks.

Complete fan specs.

Hi

Sorry for the delay but things have been really busy with the launch of the new motherboards etc. I have just chased it up though so hopefully we will get an answer very soon.

Hi I have just had the reply and it is as follows:

0.28A fan is ok for each of fan headers. Max. safe load is 1A for each of the headers.

Hope this helps. ;)

Hi  Dark Mantis

I too have the similar fans in my HAF-912 Advanced cabinet, and board is GA-H57M-USB3.

There is one system fan header on the board, but i don't know how to connect the fan(s) to it. Though all are powered by 12V connectors of power supply, the fan header on the board is not utilized. I want to control them via motherboard.

Is there any way out?

Hi

Obviously it depends on the fans and how much power they draw but as long as they are withing the motherboard fan header specs there is no reason why you shouldn't connect them that way. You can purchase adapter cables to make the connection right. Although I would be looking to go the other way normally.

If it is because you want control of the fans then get a fan controller that will fit in a drive bay and you willl be able to control the speed of all the fans and have a readout of the temperatures in various locations.

Well I meant how to connect the fan to the single Four pin header.

If I remove the 12V power supply connector then which connector of FAN cable shall i use to connect any fan to this single header (page 24 of manual)

Is it SYS_FAN2 that you want to connect to?

SYS_FAN2:
Pin No. Definition
1 GND                                         - Black
2 +12V / Speed Control                - Red
3 Sense                                       - Yellow(White)
4 Reserve

Thanks

Got it.

But will try to find a decent fan controller, as I am worried if the fan stalls or jams due to mechanical problem or so, it might pull higher amperage from motherboard and eventually may damage it.

So your previous suggestion sounds more logical.

Thanks

I have just fitted a Lamptron Touch fan controller to my system and it is absolutely terrific. I wouldn't be without it now for sure. It will take as much load as you can throw at it within reason(even my watercooliong pumps) and gives me 6 fan outlets and 6 sensors. Don't have to worry about pulling too much load through the motherboard headers either!
