Title: Correct SATA Cofiguration for GA-790XTA-UD4 AMD Phenom II Black (955)
Post by: Fire_Marshall13 on January 10, 2011, 11:59:11 pm
Question
I am building a new system (Last build 1997) I have
1 Sony Black Blu-Ray Burner
1, Intel SSD
3, WD HD's 1 TB

I would like to run my SSD and Sony DVD in IDE Confiuration (Marvel 9218 chip) 2 ports available
and my 3 WD dives in AHCI Configuration. (AMD SB750 Chip) 5 ports available
Can this be done?
I have 3 WD Hd's and Marvel only has 2 ports so I really can't switch things around unless I can jam 3 SATA cables into 2 ports.  But Marvell has problems recognizing opticial items never mind SSD's so now what?

Here is a really brief senario I want the OS and virus software, CAD systems on SSD then lock it up except updates.
I want to give each member of the family a 1, TB hard drive of thier own. Don't want 8 year old or the 2 adults to download to any other hard drive but thier  own.   I realize this is more of a software programming challenge. 'Oh by the way' (Clean install Win. 7 Ultimate 64 bit ) (No at all familier with win 7)
So I want to say thank you in advance because. I Love the board but GEEZ!!!! slow down technoligy will yha? Let a guy catch up will yha? lol

Hi
I have already commented on your post in another section and the best place for this would be in the AMD part.

Anyhow put all the hard drives and SSD onto the Southbridge controller which you can set to AHCI mode and then put the optical drives on the Marvell controller but set it to IDE mode.
