Title: GA-P55-USB3 double beep fresh build issue
Post by: tomsturge on January 18, 2011, 03:22:44 pm
I've built a new PC with the GA-P55_USB3 and Intel i5 2.80 Ghz.
After setting everything up and on first power up all I get is a brief sign of life and two beeps, I've tried clearing the CMOS via the connector on the board and removing the battery for a little while and replacing it. Neither solution worked, still getting the same problem.

Is there anything else that could be causing this behaviour?

Would greatly appreciate any help with this situation, thank you.

Setup:
Antec 300 Case w/ 2 additional Xilence Black 120m
GA-P55-USB3
Intel i5 2.80Ghz
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
Cosair XMS3 4GBs 1600Mhz
XFX Radeon HD5770 850M 1GB
Coolermaster Silent Pro 500W
Western Digital WD10EARS 1TB

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Just to make sure follow these instructions to clear your CMOS again.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least ten minutes before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Opimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self and then press F10 to save and exit.

Post back if this doesn't help.

Just performing those instructions now.

Battery has been removed and waiting 10 minutes, I'll keep you posted as to whether it is successful.

Problem still persists. Brief power up, two beeps and off again, infinite repeat.
Here's a video of it doing it's thing http://youtu.be/KFYSxM08hmc (http://youtu.be/KFYSxM08hmc)
Could it be a RAM issue?

Okay, so what my PC is doing is definitely not beeping. It's more like grunting, what could be causing that? (see video link above)

*Edit* I'm pretty sure there's an issue with the CPU, I did a little research and removed it to test what the system would do without it and it produces the same effect, so that must be the cause. =/

OK I have watched your video and it would look to me more like an overheat problem wwith the CPU or failing that a short to earth.

Firstly check your CPU cooler and make sure that it is firmly fixed down on all locations.

If that is ok then I would suggest removing the system from the case.

The next thing is to remove the motherboard from the case and test it on the workbench.

Make sure that you observe anti-static precautions.

Lay some cardboard or use the motherboard box that is non-conductive on the worktop and remove the motherboard/CPU/heatsink/fan/buzzer/one stick of memory and PSU from the case and put it on the cardboard. Add the keyboard and try and boot. The system should try and then fail emitting a series of beeps. Please post what sounds it makes.

Okay, I've found the problem and I feel a little stupid. The reason it wasn't working was because I didn't have both power cables plugged in, the ATX 2x12 cable and the ATX_12V2x4. It's been a long time since I last built a PC and things have changed a lot, I now need to reassemble the system and we won't speak of this stupidity again =O)

Thank you so much for your help and guidance, if I hadn't removed the gear out of the case I probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to spot that massive mistake.

No problem! We all make stupid mistakes at times and nobody is immune. Main thing is your system is working.  ;)
