Hello everyone! ;D
I recently purchased a new config on Materiel.net and I'm having BSOD for some time.
Here's a quick summary of the config:
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Intel Core i5 760
Western Digital Caviar Green S-ATA - 1000 GB - 64
Gigabyte GV-N460OC-1GI (GeForce GTX 460) in SLI
Gigabyte GA-P55-DU4
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
Intel X25-M 80GB "Postville"
Corsair AX - 750W
Extreme3 Kit G. Skill 2 x 4 GB PC12800 Ripjaws CAS 8
The first three weeks after purchase, I had no problems. I tested many games and various bench, without any problems.
I inadvertently press the Reset button on my tower during the POST. I immediately had an error message "Overclocking Fail".
Since then I have problems BSOD cold when Windows loads. Not all the time, but let's say 1 out of 4 starts ... Another (small) problem: My CPU fan starts spinning very fast sometimes for 2 seconds, while no particular program is launched.
I already did some tests:
- Formatting
- Various Memtest: no error
- Value changes in the BIOS
But still BSOD ... Additional Information:
- The code displayed on the blue screen: 0x00000124
- Bluescreenview.exe program tells me the blue screen comes from the driver ntoskrnl.exe
- Also, my memory is detected as 1333 MHz (instead of 1600 mhz) in CAS 9 (instead of CAS 8).
I confess to being somewhat overwhelmed by these BSOD .... I really need your help! Thanks you!

BSOD 124 means you need more QPI/Vtt set
If you want your memory to run at 1600 you must set it that way in the BIOS.
-
Yes I would agree with Lsdmeasap regarding your problems.
The 1333 mhz speed for the memory is because that is the fastest JEDEC standard and so it defaults to that. You will need to set it manually to go any faster.

Hello guys,
Thank you for your help ! :D
I also contacted Gigabyte : they told me to clear the CMOS.
So I cleared it and then changed the QPI/Vtt settings : 1,17 instead of 1,1
Now let's wait and see if i have BSOD again...
-
You are welcome but please let us know how you get on. ;)
-
Hello guys,
No more BSOD !
Thanks for your help, bye ! 8)
-
You are very welcome and it is good to see that the BSODs are gone for good. ;)
-
Well... I've just had another BSOD... >:(
Always the same, 124, on cold boot...
Any idea ?
-
Well it is a memory problem.
0x00000124 << incorrect QPI/Vtt voltage ( to much/not enough) so you will need to check that out first although you will need to check the other settings too. Make sure that it is within a maximum of 0.5v of the memory voltage. It can be closer but no further away.

Here are the new BIOS settings :

Have you any advices ?
-
So is it running ok now ?
-
For now, yes, but the last BSOD took 10 days to appear...
Does my settings look right ?
-
They look fine but often you have to play around with the QPI/Vtt until you get to what the machine finds stable. It might take some time to check.
-
I've just had another freezer, without BSOD...
I was browsing pictures from a CD when a black screen appared, and then reboot.
Windows 7 launches correctly and then again, freeze and reboot...
Since, the PC is running ok.
WTF ? ???
-
It might just mean that you haven't got the QPI/Vtt quite right yet. Try raising or lowering it a touch nad see if it gets better or worse. Don't forget to note down the changes you make and the effect it has on the system as you would be surprised how quickly you can forget.

A friend told me it could be a SSD problem.
I remember having a CHKDSK (after the first BSOD) with a lot (really a lot) of errors detected during the CHKDSK.
Do you think it can be the SSD ?
-
You already have a SSD then?
Well if they are set up properly and you are running Windows 7 so that TRIM is automatically enabled there is no reason why it should give any more problems in that department than a magnetic hard drive.
