Title: GA-M57SLI-S4 and PCI-E 2.1 GPUs
Post by: SteveH3671 on January 27, 2011, 02:28:39 pm
I've read there are compatibility issues between PCI-E 2.1 cards and mobos with PCI-E 1.0 slots, like my old nForce 570 board, depending on BIOS.  I have the FG BIOS version, dated July 08.

Is anyone sucessfully running an ATI 5xxx- or 6xxx-series in this kind of board (or in fact, any other PCI-E 1.0 mobo)? If so, what BIOS date have you got?  I was thinking of getting an HD5770 or maybe a 6850 (which I could bung in my next build).

Thanks for any advice on this one.

good way to tell is to find the date the card was first produced if it is a few months before that bios then possiably might work if it was first produced after the bios then no garantee.

I have seen the issue in a friends board it just wouldnt screen up it was just all black and once it was very large icons and drivers wouldnt install.  Might at that point see if windows has drivers for it might work better. Only solution is to upgrade motherboard.
