Title: H55M cpu temp
Post by: Maxwel on February 02, 2011, 12:43:53 am
Ga-H55M-S2V
i3 550 Stock settings
MEM 2Gx2|MUSHKIN 996586 R
WinXP 32 bit

At idle ETG6 and Speedfan report 8C for the cpu temp - the room is ~20C.
Running Prime95, the temp goes to 53C.  Is this a bogus reading also?

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

You neglected to mention what cooler you are using on the CPU. Obvously this can make a huge diference to the tempertures.

Are you running the latest versions of the reporting software and is your BIOS the most up to date version available?

Stock Intel cooler, latest ET6, Speedfan, Bios (F3).

For a stock heatsink I wouldn't say the tempertures are bad at all. Obviously there is some discontinuity there between a couple of the figures but that is not uncommon. You might be able to get rid of that with a BIOS update if there is one available and make sure that you have the latest versions of your utilities there.

What I'm concerned about is the bogus 9c reading at idle.  Why is it so low?

It could be one of two things. Either it is just a stuck or malfunctioning sensor ( which is quite common) or it could be that the reporting software (either BIOS or program) is not reading it correctly. That was why I mentioned about updating.
