Title: GA-880GA-UD3H HDD Problem
Post by: ShadoX on February 02, 2011, 01:16:38 pm
Hi

I just bought a GA-880GA-UD3H motherboard (with an AMD X4 640 CPU). The board is a Rev 2.0 and on Bios F7

All seems to be working perfectly except i can not get my 2 Samsung F3 1Tb SATA 3Gbps drives to be "detected" by the motherboards SATA 6Gbps slots.

I've tried the SATA cables provided aswell as my own, ive flashed the bios to F7 from F1. I've tried setting the slots from IDE to AHCI mode, nothing works.

but if i move the drives to the 2x3Gbps ports (2 white ones) they work perfectly with no issues (So the HDD's are not at fault).

If i plug my SATA DVD Burner into any of the SATA 6Gbps slots, it is picked up and also works correctly.
So that kind of rules out the SATA ports. What could be the issue here? The drives work, the ports work, ive tried all the Configs, they just aren't being detected on bootup

Any help would be great as i will be adding more drives to this PC and really need those extra slots (whole point of buying that mobo was for the 8 SATA slots....)

Cheers

Hello,
In a Hungarian forum, I read about a guy having the same problems although his board was  an 880GMA-UD2H.
There seems to be an issue between the SB850 chipset + Samsung F3 which was solved by flashing the Firmware of the Samsung HDD.

Here is the link;  http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/faqView.do?b2b_bbs_msg_id=308
As a precaution;
1. Start machine in DOS mode(do not use the windows dos mode)
2. When you're flashing it, make sure you only have that one drive connected & operating.
3. Make sure that the firmware exactly matches your Samsung HDD.
Hope this helps.

Thanks heaps mate

Actually literally 2 mins before i came here, i checked another computer orientated forum i belong too and posted the same problem too, this same fix was suggested.

Needless to say i did the firmware update, and now both drives are working on the 6Gpbs ports no problems at all :D
