Hi,
I have a problem with my new Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard.
I have set SATA3.0 controller (blue ports) to AHCI mode. When I connect my HDD Seagate to SATA3_0 port computer boots properly first time only. If I restart my computer (from Windows or because of BIOS changes - it doesn't matter) it halts on POST screen. :( I have to power off and power on my computer to work - until next reset. :(
If I set in BIOS - Integrated Peripherals - OnChip SATA Type to Native IDE, it works fine and I can restart my computer without problems, but I want my HDD to work in AHCI mode.
It looks like some AHCI problem because normally is show the "AHCI drives screen" after the "POST screen", but after reset it hangs on "POST screen" and no "AHCI drives screen" is shown.
BIOS - Integrated Peripherals setting:
OnChip SATA Controller [Enabled]
OnChip SATA Type [AHCI]
OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type [IDE]
x OnChip SATA RAID5 Support [Disabled]
OnChip SATA3.0 Support [Enabled]
Onboard GSATA/IDE Ctrl [Enabled]
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode [AHCI] in future [RAID]
Onboard LAN Function [Enabled]
...
BIOS is the latest version - FF. No overclocking
Please help, thanks.

!!! SOLUTION !!!
Change
OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type to AS SATA TYPE.

See I knew if we left you alone long enough you would sort it out yourself!! ;)

Whilst this solves your particular problem it does raise the question....
what if you want to use ports 4 and 5 in IDE mode?
I reckon this needs further investigation as, from what your saying, something seems wrong to me. :-\

This is the exact same problem i'm having except it's with Samsung DVD burners on the AMD SB ports 4 & 5 in IDE mode which hang it.

there's definitely a couple of bugs either in the SB chip or the BIOS.
