Title: P55-USB3 Boots twice
Post by: Osmo on March 07, 2011, 08:14:19 am
Hello!

So, I have a bit of a problem with my current rig. Specifically, it boots twice at startup.

At first it gets to the ''loading operating system'' phase, and the shuts down for about 4 seconds after which it restarts and completes the boot-up flawlessly.

I have tried 2 sets of memory so far, no probs. Othewise system runs well, so I'm just wondering about the double boot-up.

Hardware specifics:
GA-P55-USB3 Rev 2.0
DD3 1600 2x4GB
i5 760 @2.80
Sapphire 6870
Seasonic 520W PSU

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I would suggest trying to add a HDD Delay of a five seconds in the BIOS.

Thank You.

Will try this when I get back to my comp. I'll post results when I have them.

Cheers

Well, that didn't help.
Set the delay at 5 seconds but still the annoying twin-bootup remains.  :-\

Go into the BIOS and check your Primary Boot device is set to HDD and your boot drive is at the top of the list of hard drives.

In ''Advanced BIOS Features'' first boot device is hard disk.

List of hard drives?

Depends on thje BIOS version but usually there is a option to decide which drive is first priority.

Floppy disk is disabled is it ?

Yes, I have disabled the floppy drive, since there is none.

OK. Make sure the two BIOS versions are synchronised.

To check, go into the BIOS and on the MAIN page press F9 for system info.   You should see both BIOS versions listed, if they do not match please update the backup BIOS to match the current.

To do that, reboot and where you would normally press DEL to enter the BIOS, instead press Alt + F12, this will flash the Backup BIOS with the MAIN BIOS contents.   Do not worry when you see a recovery comment, that is normal and means it is flashing the backup BIOS.

Ok, checked bios versions, both show the same F9 version.

This is getting weird. You mentioned earlier a list of hard drives, where can I find that? Bios doesn' seem to list any of my drives at all, now that I've poked around it a bit more...

It might not appear in your BIOS then. It would seem to be a BIOS issue I would say.  You could try reverting to a previous version and see if that cures it.

I'll have to try that eventually, but I'm hesitant to try it, at least yet.

The manual that came with the mobo has been a waste of dead trees, as far as I'm concerned, very little actual information about the functionalities of bios.

Well, I've contacted the company that sold me this comp, I'll see what they have to say about it.

Thanks anyway, I'll update this when/if  I/they have found a solution to this.

Cheers

OK no problem. I  agree about the lack of useful information regarding the BIOS options though. It could be a lot better written.

No big deal about flashing the BIOS nowadays though, not like it used to be. ;)
