Title: Sandy and uefi
Post by: Injen on April 13, 2011, 11:21:34 pm
When u plan bring to us uefi?
All competition has uefi and we stuck with the ancient bios :-(

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

That's not exactly true. The latest BIOS files are a mixture of BIOS and UEFI, a hybrid which Gigabyte has done intentionally as being a new technology it didn't want to charge headlong into something that could be troublesome. Here you have the best of both worlds as you are using the tried and tested BIOS with the features of EFI available. ;)

I will not totally agree with u m8 cause uefi nowdays is a must and imo a motherboard company as Gigabyte has no excuse providing mobos with such an old bios solution with support of large hdd and baptise it hybrid efi -.-  and claiming that we have the good from both worlds fgs!
I think that ppl in Gigabyte have to understand that technology goes ahead in lightning speed and these hybrid efi solutions only hurts the profile of the company.
Even asrock has uefi -.-

Obviously there are two ways of looking at any situation but I have been helping someone else out this morning who came to Gigabyte from Asus becuse of the problems he had with UEFI on their boards and had bricked 4 of them in a couple of weeks because of it, so there is a certain validity in  Gigabyte's point of view.

I have p67 sabertooth and p67a-ud4 and i can totally guarantee that asus mobo has NO issue with bios and since 1505 version is more compatible than before,so i think that ppl messed up with uefi as they would mess up with traditional bios.
So from what u say i understood that gigabyte doesnt support uefi because they are unable to publish a stable uefi bios so they prefer to stay behind instead of walk ahead?
I dont think so m8.
I'm so frustrated seeing other mobo companies that dare to provide a new bios.

I agree that we all want the latest and greatest of everything and don't want to wait for it but sometimes prudence pays off. Not like we have any option anyway unless you want to buy a new motherboard.

Not at all. They will still move along as they see fit never mind what you or I want. Don't forget they are the ones who have to pick up the tab if it goes pear shaped.

No I understand that. I have explained why from the information I have been given and so I can't say any more I'm afraid. :-\

You could always try contacting GGTS as they will have more info and power than we have here.

Just enter your email address and click on the language of choice.

Yeap i explained that incase u missunderstood me,power users or users that they know what they buy and for what, wont care about a polished and shiny bios like uefi,we can do our work as it is,i explained why i said what i said m8.
Anyway do u have in mind if they work on providing uefi bios, are our roms upgadeable in a future release?

The new boards all have an upgraded size of ROM as the old ones were too small to allow a UEFI to install. The ROMS are now double the size of the old ones.

You're very welcome and let's just hope it isn't too long before they release it. ;) A while ago I did hear that they were looking at a May sort of time frame but that was before this Cougar Point problem so that may have put things back a bit.

I can only suggest that you wait a few more days.
