I am getting ready to build a box for a home server and was curious if what I was wanting to do was possible. What I would like to do is use the GA-870A-UD3 board with my dvd drive and my system drive (500GB sata) connected to the sata 3gb ports and a RAID5 array on the SATA 6gb ports (4 1tb drives) for data storage and backups. My question is if this is possible with the given motherboard? Here is a link to the kit (less hard drives) I was looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.611154. Please give me your input and advise. Thank you in advance for you time.

Hi there,
Yes you can use the motherboard to do what you want but, looking at the kit you have posted a link to, I would be concerned about the PSU. Personally I would look at a good quality Power Supply that gives at least 650 Watts with a single rail rather than a 500 Watt with dual rails.

If it is to be used soley as a server then I think the Antec 500W PSU would be sufficient as you are only running 4 hard drives and won't be using a power hungry GPU.
If on the other hand you want to play games or something similar on it as well then I would agree with absic that it would be prudent to purchase a better one.
