Alright here is my problem:
I have popping sounds on my audio (no matter the output or settings, even with latest realtek drivers) I have tried optical to my Dolby headset pops, Digital COAX to my receiver - pops, stereo mini analog - pops, USB headphones pops. Tried everything and nothing fixed it.
Until I found this thread - http://www.sevenforums.com/sound-audio/74219-windows-7-realtek-crackling-popping-sounds.html
The recommendation was to use the DPC Latency issue to see if you had any interuptions in real time audio streaming. Which I did, mine was ALL red bars. and then they recommend disabling things in your device manager until you find the culprit - here is app - http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml
So I did that, and the culprit was Intel ICH10 Family SMBus Controller 3A30, disabling this reduced the bars by half and fixed audio popping completely (Didn't reduce them to the green though, so maybe another problem)
ISSUE: Now I have an unstable system becasuse this is disabled :(
Alright here is my setup:
Core I7 950 / 12 gigs of corsair Ram / Nvidia GTX 570 / Tons of power
Corsaid SSD in Sata 0
WD 1 TB Drive in Sata 2
WD 1 TB Drive in Sata 3
Optical Drive in Sata 9

Re-enable that, for now as you really need it.
Then be sure you are using the latest BIOS, and then uninstall DES if you have it installed (Dynamic Energy Saver), and uninstall Easytune for now as well if you have it installed. Then in the BIOS disable C1E and EIST and see if all of this corrects the issue.

Hi
I am not surprised you are having a problem now as the driver that you have disabled is the southbridge chip's. What you need to do is find an updated driver for it. Try Intels website and track down the latest one from there.
-
Thanks guys, I'm looking for that driver right now
As for the BIOS settings - C1E and EIST I looked everywhere and couldnt find them :(
-
C1E and EIST should be in the MIT section of the BIOS.
CPU Enhanced Halt State(C1E)
CPU EIST function
-
Latest SMBus driver will be a part of the Intel Chipset drivers, here is the latest (You want the exe not xip)
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=816
C1E and EIST are in the advanced settings for the CPU
-
super frustrating :(
Installed those latest drivers and disabled those 2 things in bios and still bad latency and popping
Still fixed when I disable SMBUs
-
In that case have a look here on page 8 and you will see everything that is connected to your southbridge and try to check them one by one.

I've disabled USB / On board sound / and switched my SSD accross the 3 sata controllers while disabling the others and still nothing :(
PS2 kb/mouse didn't help, and I can't figure out how to disable Sata_0-3
Could the board be bad? Little history
When I bought this board I had the same issue - seen in this post - http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,4759.msg37501.html#msg37501
I never got to your reply on that one because it started working just fine. and I never could figure out how I fixed it.
2 days ago it came back after many months of perfection..... No new drivers or updates were installed not sure what could have changed
-
It quite possibly could have been a driver or update but the only way to tell is to go back through them one by one. I would start with the ones closest to the time when you noticed the problem recurred.
If you still fail to find the problem you could back up all your files and then do a clean install and this time make sure that you install any updates etc one at a time until you find the offender.
-
Yeah I wish it was that easy :( I have started over 2 times today.
Fresh clean / formatted install / everything in my case is unplugged except SSD and Graphics Card, install win7 + sp1 64bit
Right when I get into Windows I check DPC and I'm all Red, with nothing extra installed.
I've installed Win7 on 2 different SATA configs today and nothing works.
Do you think maybe using intel drivers at install for sata may help? I'm so frustrated because I've gotten it to work once and no idea what fixed it....
-
It would certainly be worth trying and they are better drivers.
-
Tried with pre install drivers and no go
Still crazy latency :(
I've disabled pretty much everything in bios and nothing
Shouldn't a lot of people be running
Into this issue? I have very popular hardware
Any possibility that board is bad?
I mean it still has my temp reading problem from before so the board isnt perfect
Thanks!
-
I tend to agree. If it was a normal issue with this board there would be many complaints which there aren't. I think probably a RMA is your best bet.
-
have you tested a clean install, with no graphics drivers? If so, how about a clean install with another graphics card?
This can be very hard to narrow down, and is often some piece of hardware or a driver.
Did you update to the latest BIOS yet? If not you need too, some older BIOSes may have DPC issues, so it's always best to use the latest.
-
While I wait for RMA I noticed something
When I fixed this issue in the past - which I cant figure out how I did.
I had 2 Digital Audio SPDIF entries in my sound control panel - 1 for Optical (Tritton Dolby headset) and 1 for COAX (pioneer receiver)
I notice that now with the popping , I have 2 entries but one is for ATAPI Internal ATAPI Jack and the other is for combo SPDIF and that the combo one outputs to BOTH my optical and my coax. Not sure if this is the problem.
But it may be a symptom of the problem
-
It certainly requires more investigation. :-\ Try disabling one at a time and see if it has any effect.
-
It is a temperature issue, I spent many days chasing the same problem. I have mounted an active fan over the heat sink and never had the problem again. See my findings in this thread:
http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2166.15/topicseen.html
-
Hmm I will try that
Problem is my novo has heat issues in that it always thinks my CPU is 127 degrees
Maybe that's what's causing it
Will try stuff around that!
Thanks
-
Case open with HUGE AC unit + fan blowing into it... freezing cold and no dice.
The NB or SB isn't really all that hot and the LED isn't even on.
Except for my CPU led which is on RED hot because of my issue - which could be same thing as you mentioned.
I think I will RMA the board, if Giga ever gets back to me.
thanks!
-
I feel that is probably the only reasonable course of action now. I don't like to be beaten but sometimes you have to know when to give up. :-\
-
Yup waiting for RMA
Though in the mean time I have a partial fix. This will blow your minds. But if I install ET3 then my DPC goes to about 1/2 of what it is. Still high. But no popping issues :) - Specifically when I disable smart fan handling... not sure why the bios one isnt enough but whatever
