Title: X58A-UD3R "Option ROM will not be loaded" ???
Post by: Davor on May 03, 2011, 07:32:52 am
First of all id like to say hello everyone, im new to this forum  ;D i hope that you guys can help out with a complex problem im having right now. Sorry if i type too much but i want to be as detailed as i can.

My Setup:

Mobo - X58A-UD3R
HDD - WD Caviar black 640gb , caviar black 1.5tb
SSD- Corsair F80 80gb SSD
CPU - i7 950
RAM - G.Skill 6gb 1600mhz
GPU - Saphire 6870
CD - ASUS DVD writer
PSU - Corsair 750HX
And a fan controller for all my many fans for cooling the PC  ;D

All the SATA devices are connected to the intel ICH10R controller, and my entire system is about Half a year old.

The Problem:

Quote
When i start the system and try to enter the RAID configuration i press ctr + alt + I and tells me this exact message "Option ROM will not be loaded" and then continues to load the windows installation DVD.

This has never happened before as i had RAID 0 setup with 2x 640gb WD Caviar blacks, one of them got busted and i sent them in for RMA and they returned me a 1.5tb instead which i doubt is causing the problem because i have tried different physical combination's of the SATA cables like connecting just the two mechanical drives without the SSD then just the SSD and 640gb...etc. Every time i get this message. I cleared the CMOS and that didn't seem to help either so im not sure what's going on i just keep getting this bad luck of running into problems. I want to basically use the two HDD's to setup a RAID 0 and use the SSD just as an OS drive, i know having the bigger HDD is not an issue as it will drop its capacity to match the lowest HDD for the RAID and i know people who have it setup like that on gigabyte boards.

Not sure if the board is faulty or something im doing is wrong, oh and i made sure that RAID(XHD) is enabled in BIOS as well

I too am researching this area with some similar posting active......I am shooting in the dark here but have you tried disabling XHD but leave Raid enabled on the option directly beneath and reboot?.........I think It has something to do with the amount of data loading up on the Option Rom, I'm using the latest Bios (Beta Fg1) which from memory is 1.22mb.......chunky!.....I'd be very interested if this makes any difference to your problem or no change??

Wow im such a dummy sometimes  :D , i guess pressing down ctr + alt + I was giving me this problem so doing just ctr + I brought up the RAID config utility. Thanks so much  ;D Gigabyte is da bomb!

No problem, we have all done something stupid and can't see what the problem is. Enjoy your system. ;)
