Is there any resitrction for what RAM I can use?
I have working 3x 1066mhz 1gb sticks, but my 4gb Kingson wont work.
Its a KVR1066D3D4R7S/4G - details is:
Description: 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 ECC Reg CL7 DIMM DR x4 w/TS

Hi there,
Usually, mixing and matching different sticks of RAM can cause problems and it is not a good idea to do this.
Does the 4Gig stick of RAM work on its own?

Kristoffer......beside the advise from Absic which is all very true and correct on the hardware side, if your running Windows 32bit, the Max that the OS can use is about 3.2, 3.4 gig depending on hardware regardless of brand or size, to utilize all 4 sticks (if they all work) is to go over to a 64bit OS........as far as memory restrictions for your given MoBo..........see manufactures web site for up to date information...........Mixing memory brand and or spec is asking for trouble, ...you can be lucky but the computer god usually doesn't allow it!!!

Sorry, I was not so very precise :)
I have Win7 64 bit, and also my DAW software is 64bit (Cakewalk Sonar)
For audio recording and samples, the more RAM - the better :)
The 3 x gb sticks works fine by them selves.
When I try the 4GB stick, the screen is blank. or, the lcd actually does not turn on.
It starts there is no sounds (the last RAM was making the mobo beeping and the computer did not boot) but it does not seem to "boot up" in a way. I cant remember to hear something from the HDD's either.

I use Cubase for my recording so I know how important getting that extra RAM running is to you.
Although it may seem strange, sometimes it is a good idea to take a step back.
Have you tried running the 4 Gig stick of RAM after removing the other 1 Gig sticks?
If the answer is yes, you have tried this and the PC won't BOOT leave only the 4 Gig stick in place and try clearing CMOS (check here if you're not sure how to do this: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2286.0.html ) After you have cleared CMOS try to BOOT the PC, what happens?

Not even sure a PC will boot to windows 32 or 64 with One Gig.......But it will with memtest,........ you need to ask your self "Why am I pissing around with a DIMM that has no brothers or sisters"........no matter your buget, memory is sooooooooooo cheap now, worst case you should be able to pick up (Fleabay) 4th stick to match the other 3.......

I have actually the ID3R 1366 2.0 version, so I have 6 slots. (not 4 as I think v1.0 had?)
The plan was to have 3x1GB in triple channel, and my 1x4GB in the other - if that worked I would have found 2x more of my 4GB set.
Leaving it with triple channel all the way, and a total of 15GB ram.
That should do for a while :)

Generally it is not advisable to try and use unmatched memory modules together on the same board especially in a Triple Channel setup.

By the way - I can see in the product description that this RAM is registered, and also 1,5V
AFAIK most RAM I have seen says "unregistered" and also 1,65v.
What is the difference? ???

Unregistered memory is the same as unbuffered and basically means that the RAM doesn't have a buffer between itself and the memory controller. A lot of people get mixed up with ECC and buffered.If your board calls for unbuffered(unregistered) memory then you cannot use buffered without problems.
Thge voltage is what the RAM needs to run properly. It doesn't matter on your board if it is 1.5v or 1.65v as long as it is what is specced for the modules.

Took the plunge for a 12GB OCZ 1600Mhz (6x2GB) and it is working great.
I'll sell the Kingston then ;)

Absolutely Aussie, new world.
I had a problem at first with the memory was automaticly set to 1066Mhz, but this was easily adjusted in the BIOS.
