Your system is reporting only 10GB of memory instead of the real amount of 12GB. There could be various reasons for this. One of which could be bent CPU socket pins but more likely is the QPI/Vt setting being wrong. You will probably need somewhere between 1.2 and 1.45v depending on the rest of your hardware.
You haven't said what voltage the memory is at default ? But that will need to be increased.
Make sure thtas your Memory multiplier ties in with your Uncore multiplier.
-
Hello Mantis :)
Thanks for helping
Everything is set on defaults "auto" in bios
as u see on image
can u be a little more specific what to change in bios
i am not expert in this :) i don't want to burn something :D
-
Hi
Well firstly I need the timings and voltage off the modules themselves (or package they came in). ie 8-8-8-24 1.65v
You will need to take your QPI/Vtt off Auto and the same with your Uncore and see what they are set to at the moment. post the settings here too.
-
memory is kingston KHX1600C8D3K2/4Gx 1.65v 8-8-8-24
there is too many options in bios so i take some screenshots
hope this will help
-
Right well we will try and get all the memory working at 1600 Mhz.
In the BIOS under Channel A Timings enter the memory timings manually at 9-9-9-25 the other channels will be copied across automatically.
and the DRAM voltage at 1.68v
Set the memory clock ratio (memory multiplier) at 12.5x
Set the Uncore multiplier at 25 ( up to 27 max) trial and error.
You may need to increase the QPI/Vtt voltage from its present value to between 1.20 and 1.40v. Again trial and error.Start low and see if it gets more stable or not as you increase voltage.
-
i tried different 1.20 to 1.40v voltage for QPI/Vtt
didnt help
got crush around 30 min working
-
That doesn't help much. Can you be a bit more specific in what happened ?
-
i set the
timing 9-9-9-25
dram voltage 1.68
memory clock to 12 (cant set it to 12.5)
set unicore 25
and QPI/Vtt between 1.20 and 1.40v
after i turn the computer on i saw that computer was little slower and after 30 min of work he just restart
any other info i can give u?
-
No 12x for the memory multiplier was right. Just a typo on my part.
Uncore you can try at 24 to 26
Dram voltage you can increase to 1.70v

hi
i didn't had the time to test (i will do that later)
i notice new F7 bios
but if i try to upgrade @bios software just crush (image)
with F6 i have big trouble (crush all time) that's why i am using F5
any info about new F7 ?
also wondering why "12.0 gb (10.0 gb usable)"
any idea?
Thanks
-
Well you were lucky as we don't recommend using the @BIOS for running updates as it is far more dangerous than using QFlash the BIOS utility. You can see now why we advise that.
The amount of usable memory being low compared to the total amount of memory installed is usually dependant on either the settings being wrong or bent pins in the CPU socket.
-
i just update to F6
and RAM 12gb is ok now
i will test stability again now
-
i return to F5 bios again
F6, F7L are not stable
there is F8A (but beta)
-
You can always go back......Beta can mean better!
Aussie Allan
-
Yes that is correct, you can go back to an earlier or later version. Where exactly are you now then ?
-
i am using F5 bios now (with default bios setings)
still have this problems
1. 12gb (10gb usable)
2. and memory working on 1066
F6 and F7 bios (with default bios setings) resolve
1. 12gb (OK)
2. memory stay at 1066 !
but system crush with default setings
-
Thanks for the updated info. I am not sure if it is just a typo but you should be using Optimised BIOS settings not the Default settings.
-
here is image from bios
i didn't change anything that's why i sad its default
-
Well if you go into the BIOS and press F7 or select load Optimised BIOS defaults and then save and exit after making any other changes like the boot option etc.
-
i did that and its same settings like on last image i post

You have not big interest to run at 1600 ( memory sticks are very hot )
I have tested with my computer in 1066 and 1600 and performance is similar !!
Test only with defaults parameters , if you have always a problem exchange sticks by anothers
Pierre
-
true!
but i am trying to get it work like it should be with 1600
also i have cooler on ram modules
on F5 with default parameters works fine
only 12gb (10gb usable) and memory working on 1066
on other F6..F7 neither defaults parameters work
i got win crush after couple min working
only thing on this F6 F7 bios is that windows see all 12 gB
-

If you have :
on F5 with default parameters works fine
only 12gb (10gb usable) and memory working on 1066
You have one memory stick bad , i have also a problem similar with 3 * 2 GB sticks with 6 GB detected and only 4 GB running
Only with one stick in the computer , the bad stick installed in slot one , and computer cannot start !!
You have 4 sticks why not test one by one and after two by two the sticks ...
Pierre
-
hi
i already try that before i post in here
i mean i changed ram modules slot etc..
also i run module memory tests which is all OK
i have 6 sticks x 2gb, triple channel
With F6 bios or F7
windows show correctly all 12 GB
but unstable got crush all time
-
But as Pierre asked, ... did you test the dimms Individually ( one at a time ) with Memtest ... it's a long processes, ... maybe start with 2 passes on each modual.......IF they pass you will have to do the full ten passes each.........I have been following this thread and am starting to agree with others that you quite probable have a bad memory stick causing the "Crush" (CRASH) you described.
Aussie Allan
-
i didn't test modules individually
i will do this now
and let u know what happen
U were RIGHT !
i found 1 bad module
also i test again memory on 1600
and after 15 min got blue screen
-
I can't say I am surprised, but so many people try and skirt around this proceedure with any excuse. I have even had members lie to me that they have done the full test and then it comes out later that they hadn't but could have saved a whole bundle of time and effort if it was done as suggested in the first place!
OK rant over. ;)
-
well sorry i didn't lie to u and i don't have any reason to lie
i did test before but not 1 by 1 module
i did test with all modules in
also i still didn't resolve 1600 isue
-
No I wasn't referring to you in person merely many other members who did the exact thing and surely did know at the time. No offence meant. ;)
-
Regardless ...now you have a win.......next is put in all good memory ..... see what happens ....and move forward
Remember! ... if this one bad dimm was part of a set.....the lot needs replacing as there generally matched sets.

i can get replacement tomorrow
but also i am not sure that this motherboard and this ram will work on 1600
maybe get other modules ?
-
Uncle Google is your best friend with these sort of things.....check Motherboard sites (memory compatibility)...........and memory sites have lists too.
or just Google your board/reviews and see what other people are loading them up with....

Your motherboard definitely can run quite happily with 1600mhz memory but make sure that you get good quality, compatible modules. I would recommenmd something like Corsair Vengeance or Crucial or even Mushkin but as I mentioned check before purchasing them that they are compatible.
