Title: GA-X58A-UD3R & SATA III

I have been reading the posts and understand that the GA-X58A-UD3R has some issues with the SATA III controller on it and it's been recommended to use the Intel for the drives.

What I am unclear about is if this was an issue with just Rev1 or does this problem still happen with Rev2 of the mobo?  If I was to still buy a mobo today has the issue been fixed?

Hi

No as far as I am aware this issue has not been fixed on these boards. I think it was a combination of the chip and the way it was implimented.

Is there any good use for these ports?  Or should they just not be used?

Is there any known issues with the GIGABYTE SATA2 ports?

All the other ports work fine it is only the Marvell that have problems but in saying that they work fine as a single SATA2 port and so I would advise putting things like optical drives on  them.

 I have the Version 2 board and I can confirm it carries the 9128 Marvell controller chip......they do work, at SATA II speeds ..... the Intel ICH10R ports work a little better but there's not much in it!........The Marvell ports with this chip just never delivered the 6Gb/s speeds that were advertised.

 Boards shipping now , no longer have this problem.....I have read reports that although the current shipping chip is now stamped  9182 and IS the new 88SE9182 Marvell Controller Chip, ... there are some reports that some new boards still have the 88SE9128 chip but none of the old problems......

 What I want to know is how did who ever effect the fix.................Was it a bios fix, or is there a secret version II of the 9128 chip floating around, if there is, ...I WANT ONE!

Hi Allan

It iks something that I have been wondering myself. Maybe it is the way the chip is integrated into the board or something like that as I cannot see it being as simlple as  some sort of BIOS/software fix or it would have been implimented a long time ago on the X58 boards with all the problems they had with it. I feel it must be a hardware change of some description but trying to get information like that is very difficult.

So reading this thread and being under a rock for a few months....putting a Sata3 drive on the Marvell port will only get SataII speeds?

It is frustrating having new technology near you and not able to use it because of some faults. Of course there are alternatives for the SATA III but still....

I wonder which of the GA-X58A-xxx boards have this problem now fixed . Both with SATA3 and USB3
