Title: g'byte amd 6950 2gb (GV-R695D5-2GD-B) - high'ish pitched noise/coil whine?
Post by: graph on June 07, 2011, 02:18:57 pm
hi there,

i'm wondering if anyone who owns one of these graphics cards experiences an annoying high pitch tone/noise when in use?

either idle or under load i hear this sound every now and then or maybe constantly (default seetings in catalyst).  its not a really loud noise but its noticeable.

i've read up a bit on the web about others experiencing the same/similar issue but the cause for this annoying sound seems to be maybe 2 or 3 possibilities.

i thought it was the fan but according to most other peoples opinions its smthin known as coil whine (gpu/psu related).

for me its very annoying and so im considering returning the card because i'm not happy with the issue.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

It could well be coil whine from what you say. There are two options if that is so. Try updating the cards's firmware but if that doesn't work I think an RMA would be the next step.
