Title: GA-H55M-UD2H H55 memory problems
Post by: Nickeh on June 25, 2011, 01:40:40 pm
Hey this is my first post here so please bear with me! :D

I brought a new PC about month ago and have been having the same problems ever since. Basically it crowbars(turns on then instantly turns back off) at first I thought it would of been the PSU not being powerful enough so ended up getting a 1200W PSU which is faar to big but wanted to make sure. Then I tried to run the PC only with the processor in to see if it would post anything on the screen and nothing. I rang up the technicians I brought my gear from and they said it was the memory and processor/motherboard only works if it has the CORRECT memory and not just any 1333mhz memory. The problem is I have no idea what memory I need to get, if anyone could give me a helping hand that would be awesome.

Computer specs:

Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H H55 Socket 1156 VGA DVI HDMI Out 8 CHannel Audio mATX Motherboard
Intel i5 760 2.8GHz Socket 1156 8MB L3 Cache
Gigabyte GTX 460 OC2 1GB GDDR5
Kingston 4gb (2x2gb) DDR3 1333MHz HyperX

thanks in advanced.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte forum.

What the "techs" at the retailer told you is possibly true but it might run very well with your memory. Is the RAM new too ?

Have you got a buzzer/speaker installed on the motherboard so that you can hear the BIOS beep codes ? If not I recommend that you get one next.

Have you made sure that the power cables are all plugged in. That is the 24 pin and the 8 pin to the motherboard and the probably 6 and 8 pin to the graphics card ?

Thank you for the warm welcome :)

The RAM I brought is brand new and it works but doesn't seem to work when in my motherboard, they said the only memory will work is a type of memory called Hynix, they gave me the ID for the ram but can't seem to find it anywhere.

I have got a buzzer/speaker for the motherboard but never used since when everyone is all plugged in then it doesn't even stay on for no longer than 3 seconds.

Yes me, my brother and dad has checked everything is plugged in and I brought the motherboard, processor and graphic card all in a bundle so it is all capable with each other

The retailer obviously doesn't have a clue what he is talking about if he says that only Hynix memory will work with this board. Corsair, Mushkin,Crucial all make good memory that is compatible as do lots of other memory manufacturers. If you go on one of their websites and put in the number of your motherboard it will be able to tell you which are guaranteed supported.

What memory would you recommend for this board/processor?

Corsair Dominator 1600 or Corsair Vengeance 1600. 2 x 4 GB each.
